Thirteen senior teachers including non-teaching staff were felicitated on the occasion. Dr C R Ballal spoke on the occasion on behalf of all those who were felicitated.
Addressing the gathering Dr C R Ballal said, “If KMC hospital has reached this height, it is because of the teaching method of the first generation. We are the second generation and our present generation should continue with the same zeal. If you want to be a good teacher, you have to build a bridge of trust, love and confidence among the students. All the students studying in this institution are blessed because of its teaching quality. On behalf of all the senior teachers who have been felicitated today, I would like to thank the institution for remembering our service.”
Chairman of MHEPL Dr Sudharshan Ballal raised the toast on the occasion and said, “We have the best education institutions, bank infrastructure and beautiful people in this district. God has been kind to us to have gifted us late Padmashree Dr TMA Pai, who way back in the 50’s started primary education, medical, banking and what not in the remote thick forest in Manipal inhabited by only four-legged animals. Thanks to the late Dr TMA Pai and his son Padmabhushan Dr Ramadas Pai, these institutions have grown in leaps and bounds to put us on the world map in the field of healthcare, medicine banking and education. We are proud that the third generation of Dr TMA Pai, Dr Ranjan Pai is continuing the tradition and have added a world-class health care system, the Manipal Healthcare system, to the Indian healthcare scenario.”
Dr Sudharshan Ballal further said, “I joined the MBBS in 1970 and I have been with the organization till date. I am very grateful to Almighty God, my parents and the Pai family for this amazing journey. As I told, I am the first MD post graduate from KMC Manipal. We have gathered here today to celebrate the golden jubilee of the college. As a proud alumnus, it is my privilege and honour to raise the toast and wish this institution a very best in the future. Please join me in wishing Kasturba Medical College, all the success and a bright future it deserves.”
Pro-Chancellor Dr H S Ballal speaking on the occasion said, “In 1967, on October 14, this building was inaugurated. In the past, we did not have any competitions because there were not many medical institutions but now we have six medical colleges in Mangaluru. I started my career in KMC in 1971 and I spent 32 longs years here in Mangaluru. Whatever I have achieved in life, I strongly say it is because of my long association with this great institution KMC. I will continue till my last breath and will never forget it my lifetime.”
Dr H S Ballal further said, “We should remember the great soul of Dr TMA Pai because he had started the medical college in 1953 and at that time, we were the 29th medical college in this country. Now we have nearly 500 medical colleges in the country and we have been in the top 15 for more than 2 decades. Reaching the top is very difficult but to remain in that position is extremely difficult. I strongly feel that we have achieved this position due to the quality of our faculties and the quality of the students. This institution will grow from strength to strength because we have good stalwarts and the younger generation of teachers with us in Mangaluru. They will keep up the good reputation that Kasturba Medical College of Mangaluru has built, and see that it grows from strength to strength. I wish the institution all the success.”
