13th Edition of Alva’s Nudisiri from Nov 17-20
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Dr Mohan Alva-Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation said, ” The 13th edition of Alva’s Nudisiri-2016, the annual Kannada literary convention organised by the Alva’s Education Foundation, will be held at Sundari Anand Alva campus, Vidyagiri, Moodbidri, from November 18. Thirteen achievers will be conferred ‘Alva’s Nudisiri Prashasthi’ at the valedictory ceremony of the convention on November 20.
“The award winners are Prof Giraddi Govindaraju, Subraya Chokkadi and Dr Channanna Valeekara (Literature), Dr K R Sandhya Reddy (Research), G N Ranganath Rao (Media), K V Akshara (Theatre), Harini (Cinema), Srinivas G Kappanna (Organisation-theatre), Sheenappa Rai Sampaje, Jabbar Samo (Yakshagana), H R Leelavathi (Music), Chandrashekar Chowta (Agriculture) and Dr G Jnanananda (Sculpture). Eminent writer and retired Sanskrit teacher of Hassan Dr B N Sumitra Bai will preside over the Nudisiri” added Dr Alva.
He further said, “Jayanth Gowreesh Kaikini, eminent Kannada writer, will inaugurate the meet. The theme of the meet is ‘Karnataka: Nalegala Nirmana’. All the literary deliberations will be around this theme, and more than 35,000 delegates have already registered for the convention. As part of a unique programme, Senior theatre artiste and Rajya Sabha member B Jayashree and Yakshagana artiste Jabbar Samo will share their life story at ‘Namma Kathe Nimma Jothe’. In ‘Kavi Samaya-Kavi Namana’, poets Satyanarayana Rao Anathi, Sujatha Kumata, Dr V Munivenkatappa, Bidarahalli Narasimhamurthy, Tejasri, Kaviraj, Jyothi Mahadev, Dr Jayaprakash Mavinakuli and Prajna Mathihalli will take part.”
“The poems recited by the poets will be sung by singers under the direction of M S Giridhar. Artist Bagooru Markandeya will draw the paintings for the poems recited. As a part of Alva’s Nudisiri, Alva’s Vidyasiri will be held on November 17 and Alva’s Krishi Siri will be held from November 17 to 20. Nursery, farm equipment and other items will be displayed at the Krishi Siri. ‘Alva’s Ranga Siri, Alva’s Yaksha Siri, Alva’s Body Building competition, Alva’s Cinesiri will also be held. The Alva’s Cinesiri will be held from November 17. Film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar will inaugurate the film festival” said Dr Alva.
Three films will be screened in a day at Kuvempu Sabhangana of the Alva’s College. They are — November 17: Gubbachigalu (10.30 am), Nanu Nanna Kanasu (2.30 pm) and Simhada Mari Sainya (6.30 pm); November 18 — Bangarada Manushya (10.30 am), America America (2.30 pm) and Dweepa (6.30 pm); November 19 — December 1 (10.30 am), Amritadhare (2.30 pm) and Pushpaka Vimana (6.30 pm) and November 20: Kasturi Nivasa (10.30 am), Satyahareeshchandra (2.30 pm) and Nagarahavu (6.30 pm). In addition to the literary meet, a flower and fruit show, a dog show and a kite festival will also be held. Adventure by Kothi Rama, more than 60 aquariums and more 300 book stalls will be special attractions.
Dr Alva said the cultural programmes will be held at Ratnakaravarni Vedike, K V Subbanna Open Air Theatre, Siddakatte Vishwanath Shetty Vedike, Dr Shivaram Karanth Vedike, Kuvempu Vedike, Mijar Annappa Vedike, Bola Chitaranjandas Shetty Vedike, Subhashchandra Padival Vedike, Ku Shi Haridas Bhat Vedike and Siddakatte Chennappa Shetty Vedike parallely. . To a query on financial assistance from the state government, Dr Alva said the Kannada and Culture Department has provided Rs 15 lakh for the cultural activities of Alva’s Education Foundation last year.
