15-year-old Girl Drowns while Picking Clams from Swarna River
Udupi: A 15-year-old girl, who had recently appeared for the SSLC examinations and was awaiting the results, drowned in river Swarna on Monday evening.
Alisha D’Souza (15), daughter of Ambrose and Monica D’Souza couple from Muggeri of Havanje, was picking clams (‘maruvai’ or ‘khube’ in local languages) from the river near their house, along with her sister.
The water level in the river is said to have suddenly surged and both of them got dragged into the water. Her sister could be rescued. But Alisha died of drowning.
