Udupi: Sports helps one maintain good health, it also helps one keep the mind healthy said Priyanka Mary Francis, the Chief Executive Officer of Udupi Zilla Panchayat. She was speaking after inaugurating the annual sports meet of Government Employees Union of Udupi district at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium, Ajjarkad on November 26.
Government employees are under regular stress and it is taking a toll on their health. Government employees must take active part in such events and benefit from them. She urged the employees to participate in sports activities during their leisure time and to inculcate a sportive spirit as participation was more important than winning.
Dr R Vishal, the Deputy Commissioner of Udupi in his presidential address said that the state government has spent Rs 10 crores for developing sports infrastructure in the district stadium. He urged Government employees to make use of the District stadium regularly for sports activities.
Government Employees Association President, Subramanya Sherigar welcomed the gathering. Sports director Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty deliverd vote of thanks.
Joachim Michael Pinto, the President of Karkala Taluk, Dinkar Shetty, Arun Lokare, Chandrashekar, Kiran Hegde, Madhukar and Roshan Kumar Shetty were also present.
