Udupi: Miscreants broke into a temple and decamped with silver ornaments worth around Rs 10-15 lakh, at Pangla on NH 66 here, late night on December 14.
The incident came to light in the morning on December 15, when the temple priest Venkatesh, who came to perform the morning puja, noticed the theft.
According to the police, thieves broke into the sanctum sanctorum of the Aryadi Janardhana Mahakali Temple Pangala between 9 pm on December 14 and 5 am on December 15. The temple priest found that the silver ornaments were missing from the idols. He immediately informed the temple authorities who then informed the police.
The main door of the temple was intact. The miscreants had gained entry from the roof and decamped with silver ornaments.
Kaup CPI Sunil Naik along with Dog Squade and finger print experts visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Kaup police station.
