Udupi: “The Bharatiya Janata Party will win more than 15 seats in the upcoming Council polls for local bodies,” said former Chief Minister and MP of Byndoor-Shivamogga, BS Yeddyurappa. He was speaking at a press meet held at Hotel Diana here on Sunday, December 20.

“The government has failed to take up development activities. There is nobody to listen to the woes of the farmers and the poor.” He blamed the Siddaramaiah government for failing to implement budgetary programmes meant for the benefit of the poor and backward classes and read out statistics to highlight the poor performance of various departments.

“The financial situation of the state is bad and development activities have been starved of funds. Despite the state getting more funds from the Centre under the 14th Finance Commission and others, it is not in a position to provide more funds for key departments like Water Resources and Agriculture. The state had allocated Rs 11,772 crore for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes in the last fiscal, but it spent only Rs. 2248 crore,” he added.

He also said that in the last two years itself, the government had borrowed over Rs. 32,000 crore as loan to meet the increasing revenue deficit. “The government has completely failed in managing the financial condition of the state,” he said.

Taking note of Siddaramaiah’s decision to open more liquor shops as the “population of the state has increased”, he said that it was an irresponsible statement by the Chief Minister, who should be first concerned of the public’s health and should be increasing the number of schools.

“Congress leaders are not only disrupting Parliament sessions but also disrespecting the judiciary system on the National Herald issue. Congress leaders should respect the court and face the inquiry,” he added.

Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru; Kota Shrinivas Poojary, MLC candidate; Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, District BJP Chief; Lalaji R Mendon, former MLA of Kaup; Shyamala Kundar, Yashpal Suvarna and Uday Kumar Shetty were present.

I am sorry I tried to open the correct box a few times, but it did not open and, therefore, I am responding here. Sometimes, when one tries to respond, it is all Tom and Jerry. Mr. Shaikh Mohd. Rizwan, For your kind information, Pakistan came into existence only on 14.08.1947 and before that it was India. If you still insist that L.K. Advani and Jaswant Singh were both born in Pakistan, then it reminds me of a unique bloke that I had come across, the late Simon Austin, who was about 48 years old in 1978. As he looked… Read more »
