Udupi: The Udupi district police handed over stolen property including jewellery, cash and other items worth Rs 16.83 lakh to the owners at a formal ceremony organised here, on December 29.
Speaking on the occasion, Udupi district Additional SP Santhosh Kumar said that the property was recovered from January 2015 to 28 December 2015. During the period, cash, jewellery and other items including vehicles, mobiles, bronze items and other articles worth Rs 2,24,57,112 had been reported missing in various theft cases. “Property worth Rs 49.21 lakh was recovered in the district,” he added.
ASP Santhosh said that in Udupi Sub-Division, stolen property worth Rs 29.42 lakh was seized. This included 11 electrical motor pumps, a truck, 28 mobiles, 5 bikes, 5 laptop, 2 gold bangles, a gold chain, 2 mangalsuthras, an earring, a rings, a 61 gram gold bar, and Rs 2.22 lakhs in cash.
In Karkala Sub-Division, total stolen property worth Rs 11.78 lakh has been recovered during the period. This includes 4 pairs of earrings, a 26 grams of gold bar, a LED TV, arecanut worth of Rs 2 lakhs, copper articles, 2 antique statues, 11 bikes, 15 Cows and Rs 75,000 in Cash.
In Kundapur Sub-Division, stolen property worth Rs 8 lakh has been recovered. This includes 2 Sony handicams, 45 mobiles, 3 cows, a bike, Electronics items worth Rs 3 Lakhs, a gold chain and Rs 3400 in cash.
The stolen property was exhibited before handing it over to the owners.
Additional SP of Karkala (Probationary) Suman, DySP of Udupi Chandrashekar, DySP of Kundapra Jagadish and others were also present.
