17th State Junior Hand Ball Championship gets underway in Udupi
Udupi: A 3-day 17th State Junior Hand Ball Championship (Boys & Girls) Under Karnataka Hand Ball Association in association with Udupi district Handball association got underway on Friday, January 18 at the Mahatma Gandhi Bayalu Rangamandira Beedinagudde, Udupi.
Udupi district Congress President Janardhan Tonse, the chief guest on the occasion declared the tournament open.
Speaking on the occasion Janardhan Tonse complimented the efforts of the organizers and stressed upon the participants to actively take part in games and sports and improve their physical and mental fitness. He called upon the participants to play with sportsman spirit for the betterment of sports.
Alevoor Harish Kini president of the Association said, “The objective of the event is to promote and encourage sports and games in rural areas. Around 21 boys and 12 girls’ teams are taking part in the championship. Each team will consist of 18 members (16 players and 2 officials). The first three winning teams in the Boys and girls section will be given individual prizes and trophies. 800 sportspersons and 30 officials from various parts of the state are expected to participate in the championship. Arrangements such as accommodation and food are being made for the participants”.
Udupi district BJP president Mattar Rathnakar and others were present on the occasion.
