  • 18 Centre For Advanced Learning (CFAL) Students Qualify for IInd Stage Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy and Junior Science International Olympiads 2017-18

Mangaluru: Briefing the media persons during a press meet held at CFAL Campus on Monday, 8 January 2018, Severine Rosario- Principal, CFAL said, “18 students undergoing training at Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Kottara Cross, Mangalore, are selected to the 2nd Stage National Level Olympiads leading to the International level. These students have proved that it is possible for students of Mangalore to be in the top 1% of their peer group. CFAL has the best results in Olympiads with the highest number of selections in the region. Pratyush Prashanth is the topper in Karnataka in Physics. Shreesha G Bhat and Pratyush Prashanth are the second toppers in Karnataka in Astronomy.”

She further said, “There were no selections from Mangaluru for Olympiads earlier. In 2009, after the inception of CFAL, three students of Mangaluru were selected (two in mathematics and one in chemistry). In 2017, this number has reached to 18. All these students are/were undergoing training at Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) Mangaluru. The Indian National Olympiad- INO is a platform to select talented students in the specified subjects and to train and nurture them to compete at International Olympiads. This National level test selects students from across the country through National Standard Examinations and selection camps to form a 5-6 members team competing at International Olympiads.”

“In 2012, CFAL student Sunil Sinha (Astronomy), and in 2013 CFAL student Sumith (Physics & Chemistry) were one among the only 35 students selected per subject in the country to reach the prestigious third stage and had an opportunity to undergo orientation cum selection camp at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai. In 2017, our student Aditya Prakash was one among the six students who represented India in the International Math Olympiad held in Brazil. This is a great achievement of a student from Mangalore. National level exams like Olympiads and JEE help motivate students to strive for better and deeper understanding of scientific facts and data. It helps them to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills. Above all, participating in Olympiad exams and representing one’s state or country at national and international level is a matter of great joy.” added Rosario.
