19-year-old Engineering Student Harshith Dies in Road Mishap

Manipal: A college student was killed and pillion rider injured after the motorbike they were riding skidded on the Mannapalla road near Ganapathi Temple Manipal here on Saturday, October 8 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Harshith Shirva (19) and injured pillion rider Himanshu Rao (16).

According to police, Harshith and Himanshu were on their way to Manipal on the KTM bike at high speed. When they reached near Mahaganapathi Temple the motorbike suddenly skidded and both the riders were thrown to the road. Harshith died on the spot, injured Himanshu was rushed to a private hospital in Manipal.

Reckless driving by the bike rider was the cause of the accident, an eyewitness said. Harshith was studying in the Bantakal Engineering college near Shirva and Himanshu is a student of Mahesh PU College Udupi.

A case has been registered in Manipal Police Station.

Very unfortunate and sad. Our youngsters need to take safety regulations and safe driving lessons more seriously.
