20-year-old Student feared Drowned at Panambur Beach
Mangaluru: A 20-year-old student is feared to have drowned while taking a dip at the Panambur beach here on September 13.
The victim has been identified as Praful (20), a native of Shanivara Santhe, Sakleshpur and a student of Alva’s college, Moodbidri.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Yathish Baikampady said, “Praful and Rathan are relatives. Rathan along with other four had come to Moodbidri to meet Praful. On September 13, Praful along with Rathan and his other friends came to the Panambur Beach. At around 2:30 pm, Praful along with others, went to the sea to have a dip. But the lifeguards stopped them from going to the sea. So they were playing on the seashore. At around 3:30 pm when the lifeguards were away, they again got into the sea”.
Yathish further said that when all the six ventured again into the sea, they were caught in the rip current. The lifeguards rescued five youth but were unable to rescue Praful. The rescued have been identified as Rathan, Prem, Rakesh, Deelaksha and Bharath all from Sakaleshpur.
Rakesh has been admitted to the A J Hospital where he is recovering. Search is on for Praful.
