Showers bring respite to scorched Bengaluru

Bengaluru, April 25 (IANS) Two spells of rain in the afternoon and late evening on Monday cooled parts of Bengaluru, bringing its residents much desired respite from the scorching and humid summer heat.

Showers were recorded in K.R. Circle, M.G. Road, Residency Road, Richmond Circle, Vidhana Soudha, Cubbon Park, Malleshwaram and also Kodathi near Sarjapura on the city outskirts in the afternoon while thundershowers were recorded during late evening rain.

According to Indian Meteorological Department’s local meteorological centre director Geetha Agnihotri, similar weather conditions will continue for two more days.

Before the rain at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the city recorded a high of 35.8 degrees Celsius. Its 39.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday was the hottest in several decades.

The maximum temperature deviated from normal by three degrees on Sunday as the minimum was recorded at 24.8 degrees.

Met department officials said the mercury level will go down by three to four degrees after the rain.

No afternoon rain was witnessed in areas like Jnanabharathi campus, Kengeri, K.R. Puram and C.V. Raman Nagar.
