22-year-old M Tech Student Drowns in Suratkal
Mangaluru: A 22-year-old state-level Kabbadi player drowned in Suratkal here on January 20.
The deceased has been identified as Nirmala (22) from Uttarkhand.
According to the police, Students from NITK Warangal, Telangana and NITK Bhopal came to NITK Suratkal to participate in the sports meet. On January 20, all the students went to the beach to have fun. While Tanuj, Meghna and Nirmala were having a dip all the three were dragged by strong currents and drowned.
The local fishermen seeing the students struggling to stay afloat, immediately rushed to rescue them. While the fishermen succeded to rescue two of them, Nirmala had already breathed her last.
Tanuj and Meghna were shifted to the hospital. A case has been registered in the Suratkal police station.
The body has been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem and waiting for the parents to arrive.
