23 Stranded Youth in Kuwait Reach Home Town, 11 More to Arrive Soon
Mangaluru: Finally 23 stranded youth in Kuwait have returned to their home town on July 19 morning.
Speaking to the mediapersons, one of the youth Abubacker said, “We reached Kuwait on January 7 but were not provided any work. As it was very difficult for us to pass our days in Kuwait, we made a video of our plight and circulated it through WhatsApp which helped us a lot. Today if we have reached Mangaluru it is because of the help we received from MLA Vedavyas Kamath. Even in Kuwait Mohandas Kamath, Rajesh Bhandary, Ahamed Bava, Madhav Nayak, Vijay Fernandes and members of Tulu Koota Kuwait helped us a lot”.
Abubaker further said, “Today we 19 members reached Mangaluru. Eleven more youth have yet to come back from Kuwait. Out of the 23, one has already reached home last week while three have reached Mumbai today morning and eleven persons are still in Kuwait. Three of them are expected to reach Mangaluru on the first or 2 of August while the other 8 who are in Kuwait are facing some problems since they have to pay the fine for the motorbike and the mobile phone provided by the Carriage company which is a food delivery service in Kuwait. We expect them to reach Mangaluru by end of this month. The agent had sent us to Kuwait assuring good payscale but after we reached Kuwait we were taken to a different company. They did not give us any job nor provide us any food”.
Abubaker also said, “I would like to thank MLA Vedavyas Kamath and MP Nalin Kumar for their help in getting us back to Mangaluru. Vedavyas Kamath also provided us the flight ticket and the bus ticket from Mumbai. Because of Vedavyas Kamath today everyone has come to know about our problems. We will speak to Vedavyas Kamath about the agent since he promised us of providing the ticket but cheated us. we were interviewed on September 8, 2018, and had reached Kuwait on January 7, 2019. We suffered for 7 months without work and money. We had to go through all the hardships because of the negligence of the agent. Each one of us has spent nearly Rs 1 lakh to get the visa to Kuwait.”
When asked about the help from minister U T Khader, another youth Kalandar said, “We did not contact Minister U T Khader because Vedavyas Kamath had promised us of providing the ticket. Trusting the MLA we did not approach anyone else. I would like to thank MLA Vedavyas Kamath and MP Nalin Kumar for all their help and hope rest of the youth will reach Mangaluru soon.”
