26-year-old Bride-to-be Commits suicide, Family demands Justice

Mangaluru: In suspicious circumstances, a bride-to-be committed suicide by hanging herself to the ceiling fan of her residence here on February 8.

The deceased has been identified as Nanditha (26), a resident of Nagori.

Speaking to mangalorean.com Nanditha’s father Krishna said, “My daughter’s wedding was fixed on February 13, with Chandrashekhar from Kasargod. On February 8, myself, my wife and son went to Kasargod to invite Chandrashekhar’s family. When we went to Kasargod we had left Nanditha at home. When we were in Kasargod Chandrashekhar spoke to her on the phone. We do not know what made her commit suicide.”

Krishna further said, “When we went to Chandrashekhar’s house he was not present at home. After we had food we asked the family members to take us to Chandrashekhar’s shop. When we went to meet him he was sitting in one corner and did not speak a word with us, we then returned from Kasargod. When we came back from Kasargod the front door of our house was open and the TV was on. We thought Nanditha must be sleeping. We called her several times but did not get any response, we knocked at her room door which was locked. Later when we pushed the door open, we were shocked to see her hanging to the ceiling fan”.

Krishna also said, “We want to listen to the last conversation of Nanditha with Chandrashekhar now we cannot bring our daughter back but we have to do justice to our daughter. She was preparing for her marriage. And she had packed all her things which she wanted to take to Kasargod after her marriage. We need an answer for the extreme step she had taken to end her life.”

Speaking to mangalorean.com Kusuma, a neighbour of Nanditha said, “On February 13, the marriage was fixed and Nanditha’s family members went to Kasargod. Nanditha was happy till 1:00 pm, at 1:06 pm she got a call from Chandrashekhar. After the call, she has committed suicide. But Chandrashekhar’s family did not even come to see the dead body. The police asked Chandrashekhar’s family members to come to the police station on February 13. Nanditha’s mobile has been seized by the police. But today all the family members of Chandrashekhar came to Nanditha’s house. It is the mistake of Chandrashekhar’s family to come to girl’s house. They were questioning us about her suicide. We all the locals are here to fight for justice. We need to know why she committed suicide, Nanditha is a good girl but Chandrashekhar’s family is putting allegations on Nanditha and questioning her character.”
