269 Students Opted for a Better Career & Better Earning by Joining St Aloysius ITI
Mangaluru: It was once again the inauguration of the academic year 2018-19 at St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute {SAITI} , run by the Jesuits Fathers, which is one of the pioneer institute in the Technical Field in the area, where many students after completing their studies/training here, have got jobs on the day they graduated and are presently earning more than a College Graduates make? And this year according to the Director of ITI, Fr Eric Mathias SJ, the Institute has received the highest number of applicants in all these years- 269 students have enrolled for various courses in technical field at SAITI. Indeed a good option made by these 269 students for a “Better Career” in future, and also “Better Earning” than College Graduates?
One of the great benefits in pursuing your career in technical field rather that burning your midnight oil to excel in your college degree or post-graduate career, is that you have your job ready when you complete your ITI course-whereas when you graduate from a degree college or post graduate you will have to run around searching for a good job, which may take months or could be years. So, would you prefer to do your Graduate and Post Graduate studies, and then after graduating wait a long time to get a better and good paying job” or Would you prefer to pursue your career in technical/mechanical field, and get a good job at a reputed firm in no time once you complete your training/course ? I bet anyone would opt for the Latter than the Former, to pursue their career in tech field and anticipate a bright future ahead. Do you know that Electricians, Plumbers, Air Condition mechanics, Automobile mechanics and those trained and qualified in any technical field earn big money than those in medical field in European countries.
A licensed plumber/electrician or an AC Mechanic earns nearly $ 70-80 thousand {nearly Rs 5,360,000} per year in USA, which even a medical professional doesn’t make that much. And for that matter, students who had got training in various technical field from SAITI have been earning good salary in India, and quite a few are employed in Gulf and Europeans countries making big bucks, and enjoying their lives. So don’t you think that One or Two years training in technical field is much better than slogging and browsing through books and burning that midnight oil in order to pass your exams and then go job hunting? There is lots of scope for those trained in technical field, where jobs are ready, and you can make a good living. What’s your choice? Think twice before you step into your next career after SSLC or PUC.
Yes, technological advancement is happening at very rapid pace. Thus continuous exposure and adaptation to the changing environment is inevitable. Currently, there exists a wide gap between the skills attained by a student and the actual industrial requirements. As a result, even though jobs are available in the industries, unemployment problem exists among youth. If the training programme is designed so that the students acquire the skills which are required by the industry, he/she can get employed easily. And these 269 students will no doubt have a good career ahead of them as they pursue their studies/training at SAITI- You are all in good hands of the Jesuit Priests, and good lecturers/trainers, where you will not only receive the best education/training, but also learn good morals, characters, discipline, respect and caring for others.
The inaugural programme began with a prayer dance, followed by welcome address by Santhosh- a student from Electronics Mechanic trade who welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering on behalf of the institution. The Academic year of 2018-2019 of SAITI was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the Chief Guest Deepak Dsouza Attavar- a social worker; along with Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ- Rector of St Aloysius Institutions; Fr Eric Mathias SJ- Director of the institution; Vincent Mendonsa-Principal; Alwyn Menezes- Vice Principal, Roshan D’souza- Training Officer, Raghavendra- Convener, a parent and a student.
Addressing to the audience, the Chief Guest Deepak Attavar said, “Workforce in industries is the backbone of an economy and the ITI graduates make up this workforce. If some machine or an equipment fails, a skilled person is required to set it right. So, everyone in the society depends on a technically skilled person and ITI is the place which creates skilled people. That is why there are ample of employment or entrepreneurial opportunities for ITI graduates. They are the ones who put life into any machine or equipment. So to all these 269 students who have decided to join this prestigious SAITI, I say that “You all have made the right choice in your career, and you won’t regret for the step you have taken in joining this institute to pursue your career in technical field”. Wish you best of luck and a better future ahead”.
On the occasion, Umesh J.A- Junior training Officer of Electronics Mechanic Department was felicitated upon completing 25 years of fruitful service in the institution. Principal Vincent Mendonsa read the elaborate citation of Umesh, prior to His felicitation. Course Completion Certificates were distributed to the students of a special course conducted in collaboration with TATA Motors. Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ in his Presidential address congratulated the students for securing admission in the institution and said, “This institution does not focus only on mental development, but also emotional and spiritual growth is facilitated. Among all the qualities we try to inculcate in students, humanity comes first. Our education is value based and we form our students to be the men and women for others.” He also urged people to cut down their personal celebrations like birthdays and donate for the people affected by floods in Kerala and Kodagu.
Fr Eric Mathias SJ, the Director of the institution said, “ We wanted to celebrate Rector’s birthday today during this occasion, but he insisted that we don’t celebrate it since he felt that when our fellow beings are suffering from floods in Kerala and Kodagu, the celebration is not justified. Our staff members too have come forward to help these people by donating their one day salary. Thus they have set an example for everyone, especially the students. We need to care for others, while also pursuing in our academic studies.”
Following the formal function, students presented a cultural programme. Shreyas, a student of MMV trade proposed vote of thanks, while Gyaral Lobo, a student of MMV trade compered the programme. The programme was concluded by National Anthem.
