28 Organisations to Hold Mass Protest Against Fuel Price Hike – Ivan D’Souza
Mangaluru: “When the fuel price in the international market is decreasing, it has been increasing in our country every day and the common man is suffering because of it. The Rupee is falling against the Dollar. There is no control over the fuel price. To put a stop to the hike in the fuel price 28 organizations have decided to hold a mass protest at various places in the city. We will continue our protest until the hike in the price of fuel is rolled back”, said MLC Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on September 7.
Addressing the media person Ivan said, “With the maximum slab of GST 28%, we can get fuel at a lesser price. To please the Corporate companies and to support them fuel does not come under the GST. With the hike in fuel prices every day, PM Modi is looting 130 crore people. In 2014 the fuel price in the international market was $108.26 per barrel and the price for Petrol price was Rs 65 and the diesel Rs 48 per litre, now when the price per barrel in the international market is just $ 63, the price of diesel per litre is Rs 74.60 and petrol is Rs 83. Every day we see a hike in the price of Petrol and Diesel putting the common man in trouble. Due to the hike in the price of fuel, the price for basic commodities has also increased and the daily wage labourers, farmers, transport workers, Beedi workers, auto drivers, Goods vehicle drivers including the middle-class families are facing problems. The NDA government led by PM Narendra Modi has failed to control the hike in fuel prices and allowed the corporate companies to loot the country.”
Ivan further said, “From the past four years, the NDA government has not revealed where the taxpayer’s money is being spent. In 2014 the then government had made the country Kerosine free and the gas price then was Rs 400 but now in 2018, the price of gas has reached Rs 813. After the NDA government led by Modi came to power, excise duty has been hiked 12 times. According to the survey, India is exporting Petrol and Diesel to 27 countries. Petrol is being exported to other countries at a cost of Rs 34 and Diesel for Rs 37 per litre. What kind of justice is the government doing with the people of the country? In our own country, we need to pay Rs 84 per litre for petrol while it is being exported for Rs 34. Is it not a tragedy for the 130 crore people of this country?” questioned Ivan.
Ivan also said, “There is a country-wide condemnation for the anti-people policy of the NDA government. To protest against the anti-people policy we the 28 organizations have joined hands to protest against the NDA government. On September 7, we will stage a protest at the Urwa market at 5:00 pm. At 6:00 pm we will stage a protest at the Urva Rickshaw stand, 7:00 pm at Kudroli Jodupalli, 8:00 pm near the Bundar Police station and at 8:30 pm at Kandak. On 8 September we will hold protests in 5 places, Kudroli, KMC Attavar, Mahakali Padpu, Valencia and Kankanady Grounds. On September 10, a country-wide bandh has been called against the hike in fuel prices for which we will render our full support.”
President of Forum for Justice Dayanath Kotian released the pamphlets of the Protest. Twenty thousand pamphlets will be distributed to the people to bring awareness on the hike in fuel prices.
