28th Foundation Day Celebration of Konkan Railway

Mangaluru: 15th October marks a significant date as Konkan Railway celebrates its 28th foundation day this year, the day that bought to reality of the most challenging project by connecting amazing Konkan to the rest of India.

Konkan Railway has generated operating surplus from the start its operational phase. During the financial year 2017-18, Konkan Railway has achieved a net profit of Rs 126 Cr which is double the net profit compared to the last financial year. The revenue of the Konkan Railway also registered significant growth during the year. The turnover of the company during the financial year 2017-18 was `2483 Cr and a growth of 15% has been observed as compared to the previous financial year.

Further to boost the development of Konkan region and provide support to the people of Konkan in general, Ministry of Railway has accorded approval for an increase of Authorized Equity Share Capital from Rs 806.47 Cr to Rs 4000 Cr for execution of ongoing projects and major capacity augmentation of Konkan Railway route. The first time Konkan Railway issued Rights shares and received an amount of Rs 310 Cr by subscribing full Rights Issue from the Ministry of Railways and the four participating states for the work of Roha-Veer Doubling Work and Electrification of Konkan Railway.

Konkan Railway always strives to provide better passenger amenities to its passengers for a safe and pleasing journey. The Ministry of Tourism has approved Rs 25 Cr to upgrade Madgaon, Karmali and Thivim Stations in Goa State.

Corporation took various initiatives for the upliftment of Konkan Region by way of providing more and more facilities/amenities over Konkan Railway which has facilitated in making the journey more comfortable. During the financial year, 2017-18 Konkan Railway has spent Rs 46.48 Cr on various amenities to facilitate passengers. Various Passenger amenities works of Rs 5.85 Cr has also been completed under the MPLAD scheme on Konkan Railway route in Goa State.

Konkan Railway is in the process of executing 3 major Capital Expenditure Projects. Firstly a stretch of 46 Km between Roha – Veer section doubling will be completed by December 2019. Secondly, The work of construction of 10 new stations namely Indapur, Goregoan Road, Sape Wamane, Kalbani, Kadwai, Verawali, Kharepatan, Achirne, Mirjan, Innanje and 08 loop lines is also in progress and likely to be completed by December 2019. The electrification of the entire Konkan Railway route also is in progress and will be completed by the year 2020 with the estimated cost Rs 1100 Cr.

Further to increase the goods loading activity, Konkan Railway is constructing a railway siding for Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). A Multi-Modal Logistic park for CONCOR in Goa is being constructed by Konkan Railway, the domestic loading of goods has already been started from March 2018 this Multi Modal Logistic park.

In the month of July’ 2018, Konkan Railway bagged an opportunity to work on a foreign project to conduct survey and traffic study of Raxaul – Kathmandu Rail Line. A MoU has been signed between the two countries on 31.08.2018 in the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Ministers of India and Nepal.

Konkan Railway never compromises with Safety and follows the slogan “Safety First”. This year, no major accident has been reported on the Konkan Route. The Safety Audit of Konkan Railway has been conducted by the team of Senior Officers of East Coast Railway to check the safety of critical items and identify the areas of improvement. The Pre-Monsoon Safety Inspection of Konkan Railway route was done by the Commissioner of Railway Safety in April 2018.

Konkan Railway has designed an innovative system called “Automatic Train Examination System” which is installed at Ratnagiri and Verna Stations of Konkan Railway, the same ATES is now being installed in Nagpur Division. Konkan Railway has replaced all signal lamps to LED for better visibility and reliability. All the stations of Konkan Railway have LED lighting as an initiative for energy conservation.

Konkan Railway, under the initiative and guidance of Hon’ble Minister for Railways, Shri Piyush Goyal, has formulated an Action Plan to bring the quantum improvement in the cleanliness at the stations and trains. Konkan Railway has observed the Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign from 15th Oct to 2nd October to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Konkan Railway appeals to all its passengers to give their active support for maintaining the stations neat and clean.

The progress and growth of the Organization cannot be achieved without the contribution of its Employees. Awards & Commendation Certificates has been presented to the Officers and Staff of Konkan Railway during the Foundation Day function who have contributed their best. Konkan Railway always strives to provide a safe and comfortable journey to passengers travelling on our route.
