3 Lakh Hens and 800 Goats sacrificed during Suggi Mari Puja Fest at Kaup

Udupi: The annual Suggi Mari Pooja fest of the Kaup Hale Marigudi, Hosa Marigudi and third Marigudi were held with great religious fervour and devotion on March 26 and 27. The festivities concluded on Wednesday, March 27 evening.

Devotees offered around 60,000 Guddige Puja Seve and 40000 Kumkumarchane Seve to the Goddess during the festival.

More than 3 Lakh hens and 800 goats/sheep were sacrificed to Goddess Mariamma. According to sources business of more than Rs 15 crores was done during the two days of Suggi Mari Puja.

Lakhs of devotees who arrived for this auspicious occasion were from the Udupi district, Dakshina Kannada district, Uttara Kannada district and even for neighbouring state of Maharastra and had a darshan of Sri Devi.

Kapu Maripuja is one of the seven rituals of the unilateral Dakshina Kannada district. The other six are – Udupi Paryaya, Bappanadu Dolu, Arasara Kambala, Kavatha Ayana, Dharmastala Deepotsava and Padubidri Dhakkebali.

Maripuja is being offered thrice a year, the Suggi Maripuja in the month of March is the most important than the other two.
