3-ple Celebrations, 3-ple Joy at 3-ple Fr Muller Nursing Institutions Anniversaries

Triple Celebrations, Triple Joy at Fr Muller Nursing Institutions: Fr Muller General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) -Diamond Jubilee (60 yrs); Fr Muller B Sc & PB B Sc Nursing -Pearl Jubilee (30 yrs); and Fr Muller M Sc Nursing – Silver Jubilee (25 yrs)

Mangaluru: Nurses are the hospitality of the hospital. Nurses lead very demanding lives. Working with doctors, healing patients and educating the communities are just a few of the responsibilities nurses perform on a daily basis. In fact you could say that nurses are the backbone of our healthcare care system, providing us with the attention and medical care that we need to live health long-lasting lives. Sometimes being a nurse can be exhausting at times, but the knowledge and power to help heal others is what keeps them going in challenging times. And while nurses are strong spirited, positive and focused even they need a little pick me up every once in a while – like complimenting them for their well-done job or appreciating their dedication and commitment to patients and health-care. And truly, the Nurses are the Angels of Mercy!

And one Charitable Catholic Institution in the “Rome of the East” Mangaluru which is producing the best and the professionals in the field of Nursing to serve locally, Nationally and Internationally, is none other than Fr Muller Nursing Institutions- and there is no doubt about it. And to commemorate the achievements and existence of the various Nursing Institutions managed by Fr Muller Charitable iNstitutions three different anniversaries were celebrated on ONE day on One Stage on One date -19 January 2018. Quoting the beginning lyrics from the Fr Muller Institution Anthem: “We come to comfort and to heal, to love and serve in woe and weal. We come to comfort and to heal, to love and serve in woe and weal”- these words truly fit and describe the prospective nurses and staff/registered nurses of Fr Muller Nursing Institutions.

It was a Triple Celebrations, with Triple Joy when Fr Muller Nursing Institutions, namely- Fr Muller General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) College marked Diamond Jubilee (60 yrs); Fr Muller B Sc & PB B Sc Nursing College- reached Pearl Jubilee (30 yrs); and Fr Muller M Sc Nursing College completed Silver Jubilee (25 yrs). Added to these celebrations, a National Conference on Critical Care Nursing has also been organized today (20 January 2018). The programme began with prayer song, followed by welcome address by Fr Richard Coelho- Director of Fr Muller Charitable Institutions, where he said, ” Our Nursing institutions have a tradition of research for several decades- a glimpse into the past reveals the dedication behind grooming nurses with the noble motto. “Search, Share, Care”.

“The alumnus of these Nursing colleges are spread globally at various levels as educators, administrators and researchers and serving the sick and suffering with the touch of “Heal and Comfort” upholding the motto of Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The trained nurses have become one of the great blessings of humanity, taking a place beside the physician and the priest. Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription. The character of a nurse is just as important as the knowledge he/she possesses. Constant attention by a good nurse may be just as important as a major operation by a surgeon. I feel proud to say that our Nursing institutions have provided the best nurses who are serving throughout the nation and abroad, making a difference in the health care.” added Fr Coelho.

Following the inauguration by lighting of the lamp chief guest- Dr Ani Grace Kalaimathi- Registrar, Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, along with other dignitaries namely, Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’souza-Bishop of Mangaluru; Sr Edmund D’souza- Former Principal, Fr Muller School of Nursing; Fr Richard Coelho- Director, FMCI; Sr Jacintha D’souza- Principal- Fr Muller College of Nursing; Ms Jasmine Saritha Vas- principal, Fr Muller School of Nursing; and Ms Daryl Aranha- organizing secretary/President of Alumni association FMCON., the chief guest Dr Ani said, ” On the outset I need to compliment these Fr Muller Colleges of Nursing for providing the best training, guidance and education to the nursing students. We should all know that the glory of the hospital depends on how the nurses take care of the patients. Nurses are challenged to expand their practice by offering creative approaches to old and new health problems. In this era with enormous challenges in the health care field, designing new and innovative programmes that make a difference in the health status of our citizens is the need of the hour.”

” I am overwhelmed to be in this awesome convention centre amidst awesome nurses. You should all know that Nurse is the best profession one could have. While Nurses are called Angels of Mercy, they should also be Nurses of Knowledge. They are the heart of the health care system, and without nurses there wouldn’t be a hospital or a nursing centre. We should be proud to wear the white uniform, which receive great respect from everyone. Nurses you should empower your nursing profession. Quoting India’s former President Abdul J Kalam -“Learning gives creativity, Creativity leads to thinking, Thinking provides knowledge, and Knowledge makes you great”, I suggest that nurses need to update their knowledge and also need to be technologically advanced. Nurses are the ones who see the opening of the eyes of a new born baby, and they are also the one who see the closing of the eyes who are going to Rest In Peace- so the nurses are always by the side of the living and the dead. Nurses also need to thank their parents for what they are now. Finally, all I can say is that, Be Proud to be a Nurse and enjoy your profession” concluded Dr Ani with a her informative and motivation speech.

Following the release of the Souvenir, former Directors, Principals, HOD’s and nearly 60 alumnus were honored during the occasion. Merlyn Tauro, the alumnus of First batch of Fr Muller M Sc nursing, and now in a top nursing post in Qatar addressing the gathering shared her thoughts and memories of her Alma Mater during her education at this prestigious Nursing institution- she expressed her heartfelt thanks to everyone at Fr Muller who were responsible for her success and her present status. Sr Edmund D’souza in her speech also shared her sentiments of being the student of the First Nursing batch of FMSON, and also her being at the helm of FMSON later.

Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’souza addressing the august gathering in his presidential speech said, “While we are celebrating triple Anniversaries with Triple joy, we need to thank God for the all the achievements done by these Nursing institutions. The nurses who have trained and got the good knowledge at the institutions here are in good posts serving and caring the people across the globe- and we should all be proud of them. And because of the dedicated and committed nurses that we have at Fr Muller hospital, patients throng here for better care and treatment, having trust and confidence in these nurses. But sadly many a times patients have to return when the hospital is overcrowded. And when a nurse is always by the side of a patient, it means a lot for the patient- and that kind of service Fr Muller nurses are adapted to. As a President of this prestigious Fr Muller Charitable Institutions I feel proud of you all and may you gain the knowledge to be a professional and dedicated nurse and serve the community here and globally”. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Jasmine Saritha Vas, and entire formal function was professionally compered by Joyce Fernandes and Sonia Sequeira -both lecturers at FMCON.

The formal function ended with mind-blowing dances and songs by the talented nursing students, who unleashed their hidden talents thereby mesmerizing the audience, and gaining loud applaud. The performances depicting dances of different parts of the world like Japan, Mexico, etc including Bharatanatyam of India, added with a masala of Hip-Hop dance resulted in thunderous applause from the audience. It was indeed a glittering and glamorous “Ceremony” well organized. The Nurses, their guests and other invitees brought a grandeur atmosphere to the occasion.

In conclusion, Nursing, as Florence Nightingale would tell you, is a noble profession. It’s all about caring, self-sacrifice, and a whole lot of patience. Yes. Nursing is a freaking hard job. But if you forget about how big (or small) your salary is and focus more on what you can offer to suffering patients, you will always enjoy coming to work everyday. You are the hospitality of the hospital. You are the heart of the hospital. Nurses lead very demanding lives. Working with doctors, healing patients and educating the communities are just a few of the responsibilities nurses perform on a daily basis.

In fact you could say that nurses are the backbone of our health care care system, providing us with the attention and medical care that we need to live health long-lasting lives. Sometimes being a nurse can be exhausting at times, but the knowledge and power to help heal others is what keeps them going in challenging times. They come to comfort and to heal, to love and serve in woe and weal. You have all taken up a very professional career to love and serve the sick. Keep up the good work that you all entrusted with, and God will surely bless you. Have a successful nursing profession. To all the nurses a big thank you for caring and healing those in the hour of medical attention.

I end this report with thought provoking words by Jonathan Lockwood Huie- “Grant that I may radiate Thy Light, Thy Love, Thy Healing, Thy Joy, and Thy Peace to all those around me and all those in my thoughts this day and ever more.” Long live the Nurses- the Angels of Mercy to the patients!
