The deceased has been identified as Sarfraz (34), a native of Goa. He was married to a girl from Yekkur.

According to an eyewitness, the bus “YenYes”, plying from B C Road to Statebank, was travelling at a high speed. As the bus reached near Moti Mahal, it hit the two-wheeler from behind, killing the rider on the spot. The rider was immediately rushed to the government Wenlock hospital, where he was pronounced brought dead.

As soon as the accident took place, people gathered at the spot. The public called the police control room at 2:15 pm, but only one policeman reached the spot after 30 minutes. Later, more policemen and a PCR arrived at the spot. Soon after the accident, the driver tried to flee. This triggered ire from the public and they attempted to thrash him.

A traffic policeman on duty arrived at the spot but was unable to control the crowd. As more people gathered, the situation got worse and they once again attempted to assault the driver. Later, more police arrived at the spot and took the driver into custody.

Speaking to Mangalorean.com, one of Sarfraz ‘s relative said that Sarfraz had come to Mangaluru to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with his in-law’s at Yekkur. He was supposed to go back to Goa on July 6 at 3 pm and later fly to the Gulf.

People who had gathered said that most of the bus drivers drive recklessly which is the main reason for many accidents. Strict laws should be enforced to control reckless driving and stop such accidents.

I totally agree. These bus drivers drive recklessly. He was lucky enough to get punched only once . Bottom line is mangalore lost a life cause of the drivers carelessness . We should spread more awareness regarding the way these drivers drive within the city limits and maybe have police take strict action if they come across a bus driver driving like its his fathers RD, Its a bus for god sake, not some small 2,3 or 4 wheeler. definetly shoudnt be driven like tht.

It is not their mistake they had given certain time within that they have to reach the bus stop or they are not allowed to collect the passenger

This doesn’t give license to kill a humble citizen by driving recklessly. Sorry to hear about his demise.

Nothing is going to happen- unless we see a general trend to follow traffic rules. driving within speed limits is not something that is only in the books but needs to be enforced. How to enforce it but to collect heavy fines on a daily basis. Employing a full time police squad in arterial roads – with speed detection and documenting with video – should incur a first time fine. If there is repeat against the Driving licence then automatic court hearing should be the case. Lack enforcement on a regular and sustained manner is not happening. This therefore reflects… Read more »

Very sad and unfortunate for the family to lose a young man from the family. This bus even today being a holiday and less traffic with no much of traffic, no road blocks should not be plying on this road. This bus had to go State Bank via Jyothi. The traffic police should be stringent and should not allow any bus plying via Joythi to State Bank to ply via Falnir since the drivers are reckless and always rash and the Mother Teresa road is quite narrow for unwanted traffic. Abolish the private bus mafia and then see the difference.

Reckless driving. Yes no need to say reckless. Majority of the Mangalorean drivers are reckless by nature. No point specifying that. Corrupt RTO authorities give licence. Nationalise the city buses and mofussil routes as well. Put that driver behind bars. There is no value for life in Mangalore. So sad.

Nationalise the city buses so naturally stops the private bus Mafia. The driver who drives recklessly should be punished.

May Almighty Allah give sabr to his family. I have been seeing this kind of reckless bus drivers from so many years but nor department or RTO has taken any initiative to stop it till today. Everybody should talk to DC and RTO any ask them to implement new law for bus drivers. If the service bus stand shifts to pumpwell I think city will be a little safe to walk around. I say City bus nor service bus should not ply in city roads. Only mini city bus should enter city

I worked under him and his brother. They were the best in all. He taught me not to fear except Allah. He gave me Quran Sharif and taught me how to read. I am shocked I can’t believe. Allah knows best for us.
