44 Educational Rock Stars Graduate during St Aloysius Institute of Education ‘Graduation Day’

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” -Steve Jobbs-Founder of Apple Inc.

Mangaluru: “Graduation is only a concept. In real life every day you graduate. Graduation is a process that goes on until the last day of your life. If you can grasp that, you’ll make a difference” had said Arie Pencovici. A graduation ceremony is a pageant celebrating the transition from student to graduate and marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their life. 44 graduates of St Aloysius Institute of Education-Mangaluru, all dressed to thrill in their graduation gowns, and who were about to receive their certificates were all beaming with smile and pride as they were ready to enter the hall for the big celebrations, amidst their teachers, parents and college-mates.

And now as these graduates emerge out of the campus and look forward to serve the community, they will be of great asset to the students who are anticipating their dedicated and professional services. As it is said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. An attitude of absoluteness is the basis for everything”. In order to become a potential star, the cloud needs to collapse and increase density. But from all those pressure, their dazzling brilliance never fails to stand out and shine across unimaginable distances for myriads of years. These 44 graduates resemble that of a Star-who have now graduated with pride and dignity, but, full of gratefulness. However, this journey brought about many challenges, like decisions to be made and feelings to be nurtured. And today, these graduates celebrate their achievement, who have committed to and succeeded in completing one of the most challenging modes of studying-TEACHING! . They have all brought immense joy to their Alma mater, and most of all, to their teachers and especially, their parents.

The Graduation Ceremony began with invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song, followed by a welcome dance, by the junior B Ed students. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Farita Veigas- Principal, followed by Graduation Day ceremony. The chief guest for the occasion Dr Kishore Kumar CK-the Vice Chancellor of Mangaluru University declared the Graduation Day open. “He that imposes an oath makes it, not he that for convenience take it”- and it was the honor for Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ-Rector of St Aloysius Institutions to convey the oath to the 44 graduates, who all repeated after him, with pride, dignity, with gratefulness, and recapitulated it, committing themselves to their respective noble professions, as TEACHERS. India’s former President Late APJ Abdul Kalam once said, “Dreams is not what you see in sleep, but is the thing which doesn’t let you sleep”- now it was time to honor all the 44 graduates with their graduation certificates.

The Director of St Aloysius Institute of Education, the “The Man of Three Values” Fr Eric Mathias Sj said, “I am happy to see you all step into a great profession as teachers, to serve the nation and world. I have three advises for you all- First, Show passion towards your students; Secondly, Allow the students build their image on their own-let the students be the stars; and Thirdly, make students ask queries frequently. ” Further in his message he touched upon the value each letter the word ‘TEACHER’ encompasses. To be an efficient teacher one must have an epitome of accepting criticism, internalizing values, accepting our mistakes and above all being a Role model to all students. Follow also the “Three values” you have learned from this Jesuit institution- Be Compassionate, Be Critical, and Be Creative. And also be good towards the poor people and serve them with love and care”

After introduction of the chief guest by Santhosh Furtado, the Convener, Chief Guest Dr Kishore Kumar C K was felicitated on the occasion. Addressing the audience, Dr Kishore Kumar said, ” I feel humble to be here to grace this graduation day. Graduation Day is an important milestone in the journey of the students, who have completed a critical stage. And to the institution it is nice to see its students excel in their academics, and entering into a professional field of teaching. The real heroes of a graduation day are the graduates. Till now you were all engaged in learning, in future you’ll have to face the world with courage and challenges, when you look forward into a teaching job. Teacher education is a privilege, and its a profession for only those who deserve it. You need to develop dedication and commitment in your teaching job. Find strategies for a better teaching career. Go out in the world and be the best teachers you can be, and also be a role model to others and also your students”

Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ in his presidential address said,“When you started your Two-year B Ed course I bet it was a mystery for you, but now it has made a history since you have completed the two years successfully, and now you are all teachers. You should happy that you are the experimental batch of the the two year B Ed course, and you have experimented life with truth. You need to be continuous leaner and innovator, and should make the best of your teaching career, and make a difference in students lives and also in the community. Wherever you go, be a spark, make yourself an example for others, mainly your students. Make sure your spark enlightens others. Be the bright spark and light the world with your service and dedication. A good education is the greatest gift you can give yourself or to society. As Education facilitates knowledge, learning, skills and values to society it should not be neglected. The maximum potential to transform lives lies in the hands of an efficient teacher and that’s the reason why teacher’s profession is considered the best profession above all”.

Fr Rector congratulated the graduates and said that they were provided a very congenial atmosphere by the college for them to bloom to their fullest potential. His advice to the graduates was to do their best for the nation by utilizing their capacities to the maximum and encourage more and more women to pursue higher education in the field of teaching. The toppers among the 2015-17 graduates were honored, namely Ms Melora Peris {since she has moved to Gulf after Marriage}, her parents Felix and Mable Peris accepted the awards; and Fr Johnson Sequeira. Fr Clifford Pinto, one of the graduates expressed his thoughts and experiences being the student for two years at this institution, and he said, ” St Aloysius Institute of Education is the best, and no other B Ed institutions in and around Mangalure can compare to it. Anyone wants to pursue their career in teaching, join St Aloysius B Ed. And being the first experimental batch of this 2-year course, I think we all have done the best we can. Our batch rocks!”

The vote of thanks was proposed by Fr Amith D’souza SJ, president of Student Council, and the programme was compered by Ashwin Shenoy and Miss Roshni K- the junior B Ed students. The other dignitaries seated on the dais were -Ms Delna Lobo-Vice Principal; and Santhosh Furtado-the convener of the programme. We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for dreams… and through dance the whole being depicts the emotions we all intend to express. And for that matter, the B Ed students enthralled the audience by their rhythmic movements set to the vernacular beats. Following the dance, came a song which had the power to make everyone smile, and the two-years college life was shown on the video screen put together by Roshan Saldanha, a B Ed student, and the group sang the song ” My Wish For You” by American Country Singer ‘Rascal Flatts”, as a tribute to the 44 Graduates!
