47 Riders from WERC Enjoy ‘Kudremukh Calling’ Amid Heavy Rains
Mangaluru: Amid heavy downpour, 47 adventure-seeking cycling souls showed up at the starting point to enjoy riding in the rain in Kudremukh on September 20.
On September 20, at 7:15 am, after a hot and nutritious breakfast, the riders were all set to start the ride, but as per the news from the Mala Ghat forest check-post that massive trees had fallen in multiple places on the ghat and clearing it would take a day! In such a scenario, the plan was to ride around Bajagoli, and the route the riders embarked on was Bajagoli -Mala- Durga falls -Kervashe-Bajagoli. This beautiful rolling route provided the riders with much relief and excitement, proving to be the perfect balm for having missed out on the Kudremukh climb!
The route took the riders to the furious Durga Falls, which was swirling around like a vigorous cycle on the washing machine; and Mundli dam where the water was flowing OVER the dam despite all the gates being opened, It was quite a sight. Some riders had a few punctures and mechanical issues along the way, but it was quickly sorted out.
The riders rode 52 km and reached back to the starting point, Hotel Renuka at 12:30 pm, where the proprietor of the Hotel Manjunath was eagerly waiting to serve hot and delicious lunch for the riders.
Today’s riders, with a good number of first-timers, thoroughly enjoyed the rain and the route and were already enquiring on the next hybrid ride.
No touring ride is smooth without a great support crew; and on behalf of WERC, Sarvesh Samaga thanked the true superstars of today’s ride, Nithin Mohan, Mubeen, Prasann, Harnish, Kedar, Madhukar Shenoy, and Errol’s dad, who ensured all the riders were well taken care of.
A big shout out to Nithin Mohan for helping riders with their bike issues. Special thanks to Ashok Lobo and DSP of Karkala Bharath Reddy for making arrangements at Hotel Renuka and availing us the permission from the Forest Department.
A huge salute to all the riders for turning up today despite the harsh weather, it was well worth it!
