480 Police Beat Teams to Operate in Mangaluru Commissionerate
Mangaluru: “On the instructions of Director-General of Police (DGP) and Inspector General, Bengaluru, we have formed 480 Police beat teams in the police commissionerate”, said the Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar in a press meet held at the conference hall, Police commissionerate here on April 16.
Addressing the mediapersons Chandra Sekhar said, “The beat team will become a unit in the area. A constable and head constable will be appointed for a period of six months for each area. The constable and head constables will have the same power and authority of a police inspector in the station”.
Chandra Sekhar further said, “Every beat will have 50 members. This beat system will empower the Constables and head constables. In Mangaluru North we will have 33 police beat teams, in Mangaluru East 35, Barke 20, Urwa 31, Women’s Police beat teams 5, South 41, Mangaluru Rural 36, Ullal 42, Konaje 32, Kankanady City 21, Panambur 24, Kavoor 27, Suratkal 37, Bajpe 34, Mulky 34 and Moodbidri 28”.
The appointed police beat team should involve themselves in solving the problems of their area such as investigation of applications, passport verification, identification of rowdies, communal Goons, issuing summons from the court, crimes, criminals, collecting information of illegal activities, checking of the license application for Pistols and the crimes registered in their area. The collected information should be handed over to the respected police stations and the police inspectors should collect all the information on a daily basis from the beat head.
DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil and ACP Rajendra were also present.
