5 Achievers and 2 NGO’s (Snehasadan & Jeevadaan) to Receive Sandesha Awards 2019

 

Mangaluru: Briefing the media persons during a press meet held at ‘Sandesha’ Conference Hall renowned Kannada writer, Na D’Souza, the renowned Kannada Writer announced the five achievers names and also two NGO’s who were selected to receive the ‘Sandesha’ Awards for the year 2019. Na D’souza said, “The awards ceremony will be held on 22 January, 2019 at 5 30 pm at Sandesha Premises. Most Rev Dr Henry D Souza, Bishop of Ballari diocese and president of Sandesha Foundation, will preside over the function. Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, U T Khader, will be the chief guest. Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese and trustee of Sandesha Foundation, as well as Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese and trustee of Sandesha foundation will be the guests of honour”.

Also speaking on the occasion, Fr Nelson Prakash D’Almeida , director, Sandesha Foundation said, ” Sandesha Literature Award was founded by Mangalore Diocesan Raknno Weekly Paper, in memory of its Diamond Jubilee and Ronald Colaco and Family, Bangalore and EROD’s group in memory of Stany Rodrigues is given to Sri Prasanna Heggod, Shimoga; Sandesha Art Award founded by S.R.A. Religious Sisters, in memory of their founder Fr Antonius Maria Bodewig and Bethany Religious sisters, in memory of their founder Msgr. R. F. C. Mascarenhas is given to Mrs Manjamma Jogati, Bellary”

“Sandesha Media Award founded by PVS Memorial Trustees Smt and Sri M.D. Kushe and Light of the Heart Foundation is given to Sri. B.M. Haneef, Bengaluru; Sandesha Education Award founded by brothers Mr Amith and Mr Athul Prabhu in Memory of their mother Mrs Ethel Prabhu is given to Mrs B.M. Rohini, Mangaluru; Sandesha Konkani Music Award founded by Mangalore Konkans Dubai in Memory of Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus is given to Rev Fr Ben Britto Prabhu, Mangaluru; and Sandesha Special Recognition Award founded by Founder Trustees of Sandesha Foundation is given to Snehasadan and Jeevadaan, HIV/AIDS care and rehabilitation Centres, Gurpur, Mangaluru. The awardees will be present with an honorary trophy, certificate, citation, shawl, fruit bowl and honorarium of Rs 25000”

Following are the list of the Awardees :

Sandesha Education Award :

B M Rohini, Kudupu, Mangaluru. Hindi teacher, Hindi Praveen, Kannada MA – service – 30 years. Hobby: writing, research, study.

Awards: Kannada literary award for the work, ‘Stree Samvedane’ in 1995, best work award at Dakshina Kannada district Sahitya Sammelan for the work, ‘Stree Shikshana Samskriti’ in 2002. Veerarani Abbaka award in 2016 by the government of Karnataka, Honour from Kannada and cultural department, government of Karnataka 2015.

Sandesha Media Award 2019:

B M Haneef, Bengaluru, Journalist for 34 years. At present serving as associate editor of Prajavani Kannada daily at Bengaluru. Worked as sub-editor, assistant news editor for Mungaru daily. Worked for eight years as assistant editor, head of ‘Sudha’ weekly. Served as a jury in Kannada cinema department at the international film festival held at Bengaluru in 2017. Worked as member of film selection committee for three years in Bengaluru Doordarshan. Wrote story and dialogues for ‘Haseena’ Kannada film directed by Girish Kasaravalli which won best film national award.

Awards: Karnataka Media Academy 2013, Mandara Award from Karnataka Madhyama Academy, Cultural & Media Foundation, Gadag.

Sandesha Konkani Music Award

Fr Ben Britto Prabhu, Mangaluru, Capuchin Franciscan priest. Service as director in various educational institutions and parish priest in many parishes/churches. His forte is western music. Written 39 religious songs in Konkani, western and Latin. Authored and sung a number of songs for birthdays, silver jubilee, golden jubilee etc. He has lent his voice for several songs in CDs created by others and continues to do so.

Sandesha Art Award

Manjamma Jogati, from Kampli currently resident at Gollarahalli, Hosapet, Ballari, Renowned Jogati Folk dancer. Contribution: Dramas and Jogati Dances. Hard work and dedication have moulded her into a great artiste. She has become member of Karnataka Janapada Academy. Staged drama and Jogati dances at various places in Karnataka and won prestigious honours and awards. Won Rajyotsava award in 2010.

Sandesha Kannada Literary Award

Prasanna Heggodu, Shivamogga district. He is a dramatist popularly known as Gandhi of Heggodu. He is also a novelist, poet, and theater director. He has carved out a niche for himself in theater. He instituted ‘Samudaya’ a drama company, at Heggodu, and directed plays like Tughlaq, Gandhi etc. He has staged several street plays backed by the subject of political awareness. Won a number of awards.

Sandesha Special Recognition Award

Snehasadan and Jeevadaan, HIV/AIDs care and rehabilitation Centres, Gurpur, Mangaluru. Snehasadan run by Camilian religious fathers established in the year 2000. At present Fr Teji Thomas MI is the director of Snehasadan for Children, boys, Adults and Jeevadan for girls and women. Jeevadan run by Camilian Religious sisters established in the year 2004.

At present Sr Jancy DSC is the directress of Jeevadan for girls and women. By now they have treated 4500 patients and at present there are 38 boys, 10 Adults, 20 children, 27 girls and 25 women who are under the care of these institutions and at the same time many patients from all over Karnataka come as outpatients and receive treatment.
