5 Colleges of CHCT and NET celebrate ‘Annual’ and ‘Graduation Day’
Five Colleges run by City Hospital Charitable Trust (CHCT) and Nandavan Education Trust (NET) namely City Institute and College of Nursing; Kailkere Rukmini Shetty Memorial College of Nursing; City College of Physiotherapy; City College of Medical Laboratory Technology; and City College of Medical Imaging Technology celebrated their “Annual Day’ and ‘Graduation Day’ at their College Campus, Shakthinagar-Mangaluru.
“The mission of the City College of Nursing is to prepare nurse leaders and patient advocates through excellence in education, research and service; and their Vision is to be a leader in innovative nursing education, research and practice that impacts the health of a global community; with their Values of Excellence, Innovation, Integrity, Compassion, Service and Community”.
“Transforming society by optimising movement to improve the human experience- physiotherapist will be responsible for evaluating and managing an individual’s movement system across the lifespan to promote optimal development; diagnose impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions; and provide interventions targeted at preventing or ameliorating activity limitations and participation restrictions. Physiotherapists help and treat people with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. A physiotherapist’s core skills include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of electrophysical modalities. They also have an appreciation of psychological, cultural and social factors influencing their clients. And now as these physiotherapy graduates of City College of Physiotherapy emerge out of the campus and look forward to serving the community, they will be great asset to the needy patients who are anticipating their dedicated and professional services.- Vision Statement of Physiotherapy Profession
Mangaluru: Ten celebrations (Annual Day and Graduation Day) of five different colleges (City Institute and College of Nursing; Kailkere Rukmini Shetty Memorial College of Nursing; City College of Physiotherapy; City College of Medical Laboratory Technology; and City College of Medical Imaging Technology) on a single evening at their College Campus located at Shakthinagar-Mangaluru was quite extravagant, with a house packed audience predominantly consisting of parents of the graduating students, relatives and friends, management and staff.
A graduation ceremony is a pageant celebrating the transition from student to graduate and marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their life. 74 graduates belonging to these 5 colleges all dressed to thrill in their graduation gowns, and who were about to receive their certificate and medal were all beaming with smile and pride as they were ready to enter the hall for the big celebrations, amidst their teachers, parents and college-mates.The function commenced with the entry of graduates in a beautiful “Graduation March” by the way of traditional pattern with flowers and balloons all around followed by the dignitaries of the occasion. And now as these graduates emerge out of the campus and look forward to serving the community, they will be great asset to the needy patients who are anticipating their dedicated and professional services.
The programme commenced with an invocation dance, followed by a heart welcoming speech delivered by Dr Rohan Shetty – the Trustee. The dignitaries on the dais namely the chief guest- Dr B Satheesh Kumar Bhandary- Dean, Prof. of ENT, KS Hegde Medical Academy-Nitte University; president of the function Dr Bhasker Shetty-President, City hospital Charitable Trust; Dr Roshan Shetty and Dr Rohan Shetty -both Tristees; Prof. Janet Prima Miranda- Principal, City Institute and College of Nursing; Prof. K Senthil- Principal. City College of Physiotherapy; Prof. Usha Shetty- Principal, City College of MLT; Javad Islam-Principal, City College of MIT; and Ms Rajeshwari-Principal, Kailkere Rukmini Shetty Memorial College of Nursing inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp.
The Annual Reports of the five different institutions were read by their respective Principals, which was followed by the award of Degree and Diploma certificates to the proud 74 graduates of these 5 colleges. Prof. Janet Miranda recited the ‘Oath Taking’ words and the graduating students repeated after her, and recapitulated it, committing themselves to their respective noble professions. Chief Guest of the day in his speech enlightened the graduates that they are the true ambassadors of this institution to alleviate suffering, inspire and innovate their service through integrity, compassion and loyalty. On behalf of the graduates, Ambily a graduating Nurse spoke a few words of wisdom and encouraged the fresh graduates not to lose hope and instead look for the best in their careers that they had chosen.
He further said, “All of you full-fledged graduates in your respective profession who have now stepped into your fertile and promising various fields, as full-fledged professionals would be competent to provide professional care to the sick and needy. You are willingly embracing this dedicated profession which has its branches rooted in service to humanity from time immemorial. Now that you are moving out of the college and will be serving those patients in needs, you should be an asset to the community through your dedicated services. Utilise your talents and knowledge that you gained from your college. Be ready to help someone who is in need of medical assistance. Quoting Mahatma Gandhi’s words, ” Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.”, so go and move into the society and follow these words of Gandhi, and be good physiotherapists, Nurses, Lab Technicians, and Medical Imaging Techs and serve the patients with dedication and sincerity and bring joy and smiles to their faces”.

The special attraction of the evening was the medley of dance moves by the teaching staff, who enthralled the audience to receive a thunderous applaud from the full packed hall. It was indeed a glittering and glamorous “Ceremony” well organised. 74 graduates, their guests and other invitees brought a grandeur atmosphere to the occasion.
In conclusion, as my perspective to all the graduates is that as you prepare to launch into the real world beyond college, let me take a moment to congratulate each and every one of you. No matter what your circumstances in life — where you live, the family you were born into, what happened to you as a young child or a college student that was beyond your control, but now is the time to step forward into your own true self and begin the chapter of life that is truly yours for the making.
