5% of Industrial Plots for Women Entrepreneurs

Bengaluru,(DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramiah on Thursday said Karnataka stands third in the country in the number of women entrepreneurs.

Speaking at an international convention for women entrepreneurs, “Forging Links”, organised by National Small Industries Corporation in association with Emerge, he said there are at least 1.03 lakh women-run business enterprises in the state.

Quoting from official statistics, Siddaramaiah said Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal together contribute 51.9% of the country’s women-owned business establishments.

The chief minister said Karnataka’s new industrial policy lists a number of polices to support women entrepreneurs. “In future, five per cent of the plots developed either by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board or the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation would be reserved for women,” he said.

The state government had earlier announced setting up of a dedicated industrial park for women. “There are two industrial parks that will soon be developed. One in Harohalli off Kanakapura Road and another at Hubballi-Dharwad. We have identified 100 acres of land in Harohalli,” he added. Another park is in the pipeline in Shivamogga district.

The chief minister said in today’s competitive world, it is important to give equal opportunities for women. He said a girl faces challenges right from birth and it is the duty of the government to ensure that several opportunities are provided to them. The event saw the participation of many women entrepreneurs from various professions. Awards were given to many women who made mark as entrepreneurs and professionals.
