Addressing the audience Chief guest DC Sasikanth Senthil complimenting the civil engineers said, “You civil engineers have done yeomen service for the development and infrastructure of Mangaluru city, for which I commend your efforts and hard work. ACCE( I) has brought the latest technology advancements in the world to the members and prepare them to carry out futuristic design with an eye on assurance of quality- and you have contributed a lot to the city through your service. Presently in our society people don’t think about the future, which is a major drawback. The birth place where I come, Tamil Nadu, everyone is a born engineer. We are in the present century where everything is fast paced, and people learn quick through Internet”
“But during our time we browsed through books, went to library to gain more knowledge pertaining to our education/career. Innovation and Creativity are the two major aspects, which we need adhere to. Mangaluru is a place where it can show other cities about how development and infrastructure is done, if planned well and smartly. When it comes to government involvement in development of a city, there are pros and cons, and many a time the work/projects are delayed. Growth/development can’t be done only through theory, but it has to done by thorough practicals. No doubt that civil Engineers are the backbone of development and technology, and for that matter, civil engineers have played an important role in the infrastructure of Smart City-Mangaluru. As it is said Engineers are the harbingers of change, you all can change the way the world lives. Your invaluable contribution made towards the community and the nation building by all you gifted engineers should be appreciated by all. May God bless the Civil Engineers” added DC Santhil.
Also speaking during the occasion, Er Vijaya Vishnu Mayya- Vice-President of National ACCE (I) South said, “Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (I), Mangalore Centre is one of the strongest and most prominent engineering organization of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts. The ACCE(I) was formed in 1985 with the intention of safeguarding the interest of civil engineers and assimilating the technical knowledge to both engineering fraternity and to the society. ACCE(I), Mangalore Centre was formed in 1997. Since then till today, it has proved itself as the most positive contributor for technical solutions in all aspects of civil engineering for civil engineers authorities and general public. With the membership strength of more than 400 plus the association is considered as one stop solution for all the problems faced by civil engineering fraternity. This has been proved with extraordinary past track record of excellent programmes conducted in all possible avenues”.
“The association regularly conducts seminars, technical talks, workshops etc. in an effort to update the engineering fraternity about the recent technical and technological innovations by availing the best services of the experts in the field. By doing this the association has covered almost all the stakeholders of the civil engineering fraternity from students to professionals including the government officials. What’s stands out about the association from the other organizations is not only about in identifying the problems faced by the stakeholders but its extraordinary effort of voluntariness and involvement in rendering its services to come out with a permanent solutions. The members of the association have bestowed their best services, assistance and spend their valuable time in meeting the concerned people in arriving solutions. The perseverance of the association with positive thinking has not only benefited the construction fraternity but also common man in general. And I commend the advisers and conveners and all those who were behind Techno Week 2018 for putting up a great show, with whopping 52 programmes, and making a difference in the lives of many students. Bravo”added Er Mayya.
Er Anil K Pillai- Senior DGM-Technical Services-The Ramco Cements Ltd addressed the audience and did a technical presentation on the products of Ramco and their services. Complimenting the ACCE members for doing a wonderful job during the ‘Techno Week’, he assured his full support and encouragement from his side in future ACCE projects. He further said, “Missing links to engineering and to make things happen are :ability to ask good questions, ability to see patterns in data, ability to devise models to Under Stand various factors affecting the problems, ability to break problems into smaller issues i.e decomposition, ability to visualize and most importantly ability to communicate and present it. Many a times Projects suffer because of breakdown in communication. Ramco being an organization having contributed to various CSR activities will also continue to spread awareness amongst budding civil engineers”.
The vote of thanks was delivered by ACCE (I) Er Sathyaranjan Rao; and the function was compered by the one-and-only “Great Master of Ceremony” Er Rajendra Kalbhavi. The formal function was adjourned for a fellowship dinner, during which a few engineers entertained the audience with a “karaoke-style” singing extravaganza. There were Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Balasubramanyam, and many other impersonators, who entertained the audience with their sensational singing, and Er Mayya and Er Khalbavi rocked the night.
Ending this report on a lighter side of vein- Three graduate engineers were discussing who might have been responsible for the design of the human body. The first one said “Think of all the joints etc. it must have been a mechanical engineer”. The second one said “No no, what about all the electrical impulses and nerves etc? It must have been an electrical engineer”. The third graduate was shaking his head, “You are both wrong, the human body was designed by a civil engineer – who else would run a waste pipe through a recreational area”? One more wit- “To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be” Cheers! Long Live Civil Engineers!
