6.3-magnitude quake jolts Iraq-Iran border
Baghdad: A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit the border area between Iraq and Iran on Sunday, an Iraqi seismic monitor said.
The quake was felt in Iraq capital Baghdad and many provinces, Xinhua news agency reported.
The earthquake had its epicentre in Qaser Shireen border area in Iran, around 30 km from the Iraqi border town of Khanaqin, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said in a statement.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the focus of the earthquake was at the depth of 33.9 km.
