63-year-old man Commits Suicide by Jumping into Swarna River
Udupi: A senior citizen allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Swarna river on Monday, July 24.
The deceased has been identified as Xavier Francis Rodrigues (63), a resident of Nejar Rajivnagar of Kallianpur.
According to the police, Xavier left home on Monday morning around 10 am but did not return home. In the evening, the locals noticed a body floating in the waters near the bridge along KG Road and alerted the police. The Udupi Town police arrived at the spot, lifted the body from the river and shifted it to the Government Hospital for post-mortem.
Family members said that Xavier was taking treatment for depression since many years. Police suspect depression might have pushed him to end his life.
The Udupi Town police have registered a case.
