Mangaluru: A 7-year-old boy died after he was hit by an express train, near his house at Mahakalipadpu here on September 23.

According to eyewitnesses at around 3:30 pm, Hafil was returning back from the shop after buying chocolates. When he was crossing the railway track an Express train to Kerala hit him and dragged for about 75 mtrs. Hafil’s body was cut into two pieces.
Speaking to mangalorean.com resident of the area Kaif said, “Hafil a 7-year-old boy died after he was hit by an express train. When the train hit the boy the locals came to the rescue but could do nothing. The child was dragged for about 75 mtrs. This is not the first incident here, last year during Dasara time there was a similar incident. During and a 42-year-old man was killed here. Earlier there was only one track but now there are two tracks and people get confused. There are about 500 houses near to the railway track. So I request the Railway authorities, local leaders and the government to take precautions to avoid such incidents from occurring again. There are no barriers and people have to cross the Railway track. We have only one road near the playground with an underpass for the locals. There is a school, Mosque, Temple and more than 500 houses. It is a humble request from the locals including myself to take proper measures and provide safety for the people of the area.”
