70-year-old Kannada Activist B G Mohandas No More

Udupi: Kannada activist and well-wisher of worldwide Kannadigas B G Mohandas (70) breathed his last at 1:45 pm at the Manipal hospital on August 31.

According to sources, B G Mohandas was admitted to the hospital with heart-related disease and was treated in the ICU with ventilator support. On August 31, at 1:45 pm, BG Mohandas breathed his last without responding to treatment.

B G Mohandas is survived by wife, son/daughter-in-law and a daughter.

B G Mohandas worked in the Gulf for three decades and joined various organizations to promote Kannada language, art and culture in the UAE. B G Mohandas had leadership qualities and was the General Secretary of Manipal Jaycees before leaving to the Gulf.

In 1982, he started his journey to the UAE and joined the New Medical Center Dubai as Country Manager.

  • He was the president of Indian Pharmaceutical Forum in Dubai.
  • He was the Business Manager at A Leading FMCG Group – Official Agent for CIPLA in UAE-Pharma Division, Dubai.

  • He worked as a Community Pharmacist at Rashidiya Pharmacy, Dubai.
  • Worked as a Country Manager – Pharma Division NMC DUBAI at GMC Pharmacy – A Retail Pharmacy Chain.
  • In 1989 he was the president of Karnataka Sangha.

  • He was the founder member of Devadiga Sangha Dubai.
  • B G was the awardee of Outstanding Alumni MCOPS University in 2002.
  • He was the awardee of “Mayura Vishwa Manya Kannadiga by Karnataka Sangha Sharjah in 2007.

  • He was felicitated in Bahrain in 2008 in the presence of CM of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa.
  • Abudhabi Karnataka Sangha honoured B G Mohandas with Kuvempu Vishwa Manava award and Da Ra Bendre Award.
  • He was the winner of Karnataka Rajyotsava award in 2019.

After his retirement, he was helping the needy children in their education and was very active in social activities. He was also the president of Lions club.
