79th All India Inter-University Athletic Championship 2018-19 to be held at Alva’s College-Moodbidri
Mangaluru: Addressing the media pMangaluru:g a press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Dr Mohan Alva- Chairman of Alva’s Education Trust said, “Mangaluru University in association with Alva’s Education Foundation will organize the 79th All India Inter-University Athletic Championship from November 24th to 28th, 2018 at Swaraj Maidan, Moodubidre. This is the first All India Inter-University Athletic meet that has been steered by Mangaluru University. About 4500 Athletes and 2000 Sports Executives from over 350 Universities of the country will be participating in this historic Event.
He further said, “Regarding the Inauguration Program, the events of the Athletic Meet will be beginning on 24th November from 6:30 am and Inauguration of the meet will be taking place on the same day evening. A procession comprising of 79 troops of various cultural and art forms from different parts of the country will be the lead for the inauguration that will be starting at 3:30 pm from Hanuman Temple, Moodubidre. Mulki- Moodubidre, Legislator, Umanath Kotian, will be inaugurating the procession which will be followed by March Fast at 5 pm. State Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. G. Parameshwar, will be the inaugurating the meet and Mangaluru University, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Eshwar P, will be presiding over the Program. D. Harshendrekumar, Shrikshetra Dharmastala will hoist the Athletic flag and MP, Naleen kumar Kateel, will receive the Kreeda Jyothi. Dr. Vinay Hegde, Chairman, Nitte Educational Institution will be the Guest of Honour and Olympian P. T. Usha will be felicitated on the occasion. MPs, MLAs and MLCs of Udupi, Mangaluru and Kodagu constituencies will be present among others”.
“The Valedictory program of the Meet will be on 28th November at 3 pm in Swaraj Maidan. U. T. Khader, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Karnataka State will distribute the Prizes for the winners. Dr. Eshwar P, Vice- Chancellor, Mangaluru University will preside over the function and Umanath Kotian-MLA, Mulki- Moodubidre, Former minister Abhaychandra Jain and Amarnath Shetty, Moodubidre Urban Municipality, President, Harinaakshi Suvarna, will be the special invitees for the function” added Dr Mohan Alva. Dr. Eshwar P, Vice- Chancellor, Mangaluru University, and Dr Kishore Kumar C K, Secretary, Mangalore University were present during the press meet.
Highlights of 79th All India Inter-University Athletic Championship:
– 4500 Athletes from over 350 Universities of the country will be participating in this Event including 2000 Sports officials, well- known Athletes and Coaches will also be part of the Meet.
– The Athletic Meet will take place for complete four days scheduled from Morning to Night.
– Modernized Photo Finishing technology and Floodlight matches add real affluence to the meet.
– Every day at 8pm Winners of the current day events will be awarded with prizes paving way to the Cultural Programmes from the students of Alva’s Education Foundation.
– Alva’s Education Foundation is providing special Cash Prize for all winning Athletes and meet records
– Free Food and Accommodation Facility
– Free Food and Accommodation facility is provided for all the Athletes, Coaches, Sports Officials and Special Invitees.
Regarding Special Felicitation- The Alva’s Education Foundation’s students who kindle the name of the institution on International Level will be honoured on the occasion. Rio Olympian M. R. Poovamma, Jakarta Commonwealth medalist Dharun Ayyasamy and Youth Olympics Medalist Praveen will be felicitated on the Inauguration function of the Meet.
