80 Tigers of Geleyara Balaga Roarrrrr at Kalpane to Raise Funds for the Needy
Mangaluru: Earlier we used to watch tiger dance when tiger troupe used to visit our houses during Dasara and most of the children used to follow the troupe to some distance to watch their performance. But now, all that has changed. The tigers gather at one place and perform for large crowds. Some tiger troupes perform to raise funds so that they can help the poor and the needy in society.
Here is an exceptional tiger troupe, consisting of 80 tigers belonging to Kodikere Manoj, who have set an example by performing in various places to raise funds to construct a house for a poor family whose only breadwinner died recently. Without any income, the poor family struggles to make ends meet.
On October 1, at the Kalpane grounds, Young Star Cricketers Kalpane organized a tiger dance to entertain the residents of the area. A large number of people gathered at the Kalpane grounds to watch the performance of the tigers.
The tiger troupe, Geleyara Balaga, mesmerised the crowd by performing various incredible stunts such as breaking the pot, tossing off the Akki mudi, etc. Cubs as young as 5-years-old entertained the crowd with their tiny steps to the drum beats. Geleyara Balaga entertained the gathering for more than an hour.
Member of the Geleyara Balaga, Shaan Kodikere speaking to Mangalorean.com said, “The Geleyara Balaga tiger troupe is headed by Kodikere Manoj. We are not performing the tiger dance for financial gains. Our aim is to help the poor and the needy in society. A person by name Manjunath from Ullal had died recently. He, along with his family, were residing in a rented house. After his death, his family is struggling to make ends meet. We have decided to construct a house for Manjunath’s family. We perform for only a day so that we can collect sufficient funds to construct a house for them. Earlier, we used to perform for two days, but from this year we are performing for only one day at one place. We have already performed in Kinnigoli, Suratkal, Mulky, Kulai and now in Kalpane. Our next performance will be in Neermarga for two hours. After performing in Neermarga, we will have a bath in the Shree Mahammayi Temple pond.”
