While this is nothing new, the fact is, the woman named M V Sitalakshmi used to beg at the same temple everyday! She used to work as a domestic help. But when the old age hit her, she took to begging to earn a livelihood. And so, she started sitting outside the Prasanna Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Vontikoppal, near Mysuru for nearly a decade.

She started begging about a decade back when she became weak and could no longer work as a domestic help. Sitalakshmi last year had donated a total of Rs 2.5 lakh to the temple to improve amenities there and also for distributing Prasadam to devotees every year during Hanuman Jayanti. She first gave Rs 30,000 to the temple during the Ganesha festival and recently, handed over another Rs 2 lakh. In total, Sitalakshmi has contributed over Rs 2.5 lakh to the temple.

Sitalakshmi had told media that God was everything for her. She said that she would deposit money in the bank. Since, the temple took care of her, she decided to donate the money to the temple. She also shared her fear that if she kept the money, people might steal them. At a time when many across the country are facing a severe cash crunch, the offering made by the beggar to the temple came as a surprise for many. {More details of that story click on the Link below}

Announcing about her death, the temple authorities have said that the frail octogenarian was bedridden during the last few weeks due to old-age illness, and sadly she passed away on Monday night. Speaking to Media, Nagaraj, the President of Temple Trust, said, “We are really saddened by her demise. She was different and never asked devotees to give her money; she used to just accept what the devotees gave. She was generous when it came to contributing towards the temple. After seeing the contributions she had made to the temple, as displayed in temple premises, people started being more generous towards her. Few devotees even started seeking her blessing.”

After completing hospital formalities, the body was brought to Yadavagiri where the residents, Temple Trust members and others paid their last respect to the Octogenarian. The last rites of Sitalakshmi were performed at Harishchandra Ghat near the footsteps of Chamundi Temple in Mysuru.
