9 Teams of Fr Muller School & College of Nursing compete in the Annual Athletic Meet-‘IGNITE 2K19’

With Theme “Burst Into Flame”, Nine Teams of Father Muller School & College of Nursing, Mangaluru compete in the Annual Athletic Meet-‘IGNITE 2K19’ held on Saturday, 12 January 2019 from 8.30 am onward at the Father Muller Open Air Stadium.

Mangaluru: Dogs-that’s right! There’s a reason we call them “Man’s Best Friend”, and today, for that matter we could even call Dog as “Nurses Best Friend” too. We can learn so many things from a dog’s behavior, personality, demeanor, resiliency, and most importantly, the willingness to provide their family members with unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship down to their very last breath. A dog has the ability to live in the present moment. They don’t regret the past or worry about the future. Dogs have the ability to sense what’s really going on. If a black stray dog partook in the Annual Sports Meet of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) on 12 December 2018, and today, a Brown stray dog also partook in the Father Muller School and College of Nursing held on Saturday, 12 January 2019 at the Fr Muller Open Air Stadium.

And me being a dog lover, having four pets at home, I couldn’t resist in clicking few photo-shoots of this cute brown colored stray-dog, which was today’s star attraction during the March Past and coolly enjoyed the proceedings of the Sports Meet by relaxing on the tracks. Funny but strange, that even a dog likes the fun at Sports Meet. ( Watch for dog’s pics in the article and photo album) Wow bow! Okay, that’s enough of Dog talk- getting on to the real topic. It is said, “Talent Wins Games, but Team Work and Intelligence Wins Championships”, and in that nine teams comprising of Four B Sc Nursing Teams, three teams of General Nursing Midwife, and two teams of Post Basic B Sc, all attired in different colored T-shirts/polo shirts, carrying placards of their department took part in the March Past, led by the Nursing College Brass Band under the leadership of Vijaya Olivera. The Management, staff, teachers and students gathered with great ardour and enthusiasm to witness the Annual Sports Event, under the early morning scorching heat.

The nursing students splendidly marched with pride and elegance in their colorful shirts to mark the opening ceremony of the Annual Sports Meet, where the chief guest Miss Venizeia Annie Carlo, a National Sub Junior Power Lifter received the salute, along with Fr Richard Coelho-Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, who presided over the function, also joined by Ms Jasmine Sarita Vas- Principal, Fr Muller School of Nursing; Ms Victoria DÁlmeida-Vice Principal, FMCON; and Abin Kurian, the Sports Coordinator. A spectacular and well synchronized march-past, accompanied by a lively Nursing College Brass band, shook the ground.

The event began with a prayer invoking God’s blessings rendered by IInd Year GNW nursing students, followed by welcome address by Ms Eami Joseph-III B Sc nursing student. Inauguration and the flag hoisting was done by chief guest, along with other dignitaries on the dais, by releasing the balloons in the air. Following the arrival of the Sports Torch carried by the athletes of the Institution, and the torch which signified the spirit of true sportsmanship, enthusiasm, peace and friendship was lit by the sports team leader. The students then pledged the Oath led by the group leaders of the groups that took part in the march past. The oath was administered by Ms Ninita D’souza IV B Sc Nursing student, and also the Secretary of the Sports Committee.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest Ms Venizeia Annie Carlo said, “It’s a great moment for me to be the chief guest of this prestigious Sports Meet of a prestigious Nursing Institute. Sports is much a part of college life. Once you take up the hobby of sport, you shouldn’t quit in middle. Apart from your studies you should also venture into sports. Today many youth are hooked onto digital gadgets, where they spend most of time on mobile-phones, Internet etc. You should not be a bad role model for the future generation instead show them your talents in sports as well as academics. Let me end with a message-‘Study with an open mind, work with a productive mindset, and get into sports to release those toxins and enjoy life to the fullest”.

In his presidential address, Fr Richard Coelho said, “I really appreciate the eminence and splendour of this sports event, and the commitment and dedication shown by the organizing committee in promoting the interest of sports among the energetic nursing youth. Today’s sport youngsters are future sportswomen of the country. Sports begins with Determination, Desire and Dedication- and I believe that you have all three qualities. At this institution we are doing our best that apart from academics, we will also inculcate co-curricular activities, including sports in our students. Sports serve society by providing vivid examples of excellence. The principle is competing against yourself. It’s about self-improvement, about being better than you were the day before. Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better. Win If You Can, Lose If You Must, But NEVER QUIT!”.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Laquisha, a First year GNW student, while compering was done by Ms Zeena D’Souza of IV B Sc nursing. The valedictory function was held on the same day at 4 pm, with Fr Richard Coelho presiding over and distributing prizes to the winners. In conclusion, Persistence can change failure into extraordinary achievement. The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning. If you don’t have confidence, you’ll always find a way not to win. Do you know what the favorite part of the sport is? The opportunity to participate. Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts. And for that matter, Fr Muller Nursing Institution had taken keen interest in making the students participate in this Sports event.
