The Couple and their Brand New 300 OHC Jawa 42 Returns Back Home
Mangaluru : Quoting Helen Keller- “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” – 31-year-old Nayan Kumar, from Manjeshwar, always had this dream of travelling throughout India on a 2-wheeler. And on Friday – the 26th July 2019, his passion was realized when he set off from the Jawa showroom at Mangaluru, just as dawn was breaking, along with his the best companion, one could ask for – his better half, Mrs Yamini Acharya. It was a rainy early morning on the 26th July, when they set off from Manjeshwar, with a stop over at the Jawa showroom in Mangaluru, where their friends and riders from across the different clubs were present to see them off.
This inseparable couple has always been together on numerous rides and this – the ride of a lifetime, was something they both had dreamt for long.
In the pouring rain, on his brand new 300 OHC Jawa 42, the first of the new-age Jawa motorcycles to undertake such a long journey, where the motorcycle would be tested to the core on the treacherous terrain after Jammu. An exact month later – the 25th August 2019, their journey came to an end, when they reached Mangaluru and then their hometown Manjeshwar, post noon, tired, weary but deeply enriched by their entire journey, through our beautiful country. They had traveled across the best of the roads and across the worst of them, experienced the extreme cold and the worst heat of the season, seen the entire beauty of India on their route.
This is exactly what got Yamini and Nayan going, when they decided to go ahead with their life-long dream to ride on their own towards the Himalayas. They realized their dream, stage by stage as they saved for the big journey, rode on long stretches to Bangalore, Mumbai and other places gaining experience and understanding of what a long run requires.
Once the new Jawa motorcycles were launched and Nayan’s Nebula Blue 300 OHC Jawa 42 arrived, it was time to put everything in place. And after 31 days of steadily crossing across the different states, into different terrains and temperatures of both extremes, this amazing couple rode back into town – mission accomplished!
Here are a few Highlights of their journey –
– Heavy downpours accompanying them all the way through the entire Karnataka stretch and into Maharashtra
– Changing the brake pads of the new bike near Udaipur and finding that the original Jawa stocks are not there. Finally substituting with an Apache’s pads
– Visiting the many beautiful forts in and around Udaipur, another dream come true
– Being present at the Attari-Wagah border on Day 6 and experiencing the patriotic fervour at the lowering of the Flags Ceremony
– Visiting the Katra Vaishno Devi Temple, with the exhausting 12-hour hike up and down
– Due to the J & K events, especially in the disturbed Srinagar belt, the stretch to Leh had to be rerouted, via the much longer and tougher Manali
– Tire puncture near Kullu in the middle of nowhere, and then riding an additional 5 kms with that tyre, to get it rectified
– Reaching Tanglang La on Day 13 – the second highest motorable road and then Leh
– The ultimate destination – the World’s highest Motorable road – Khardung La on Day 14
– Visiting Diskit Monastery ,route faced and then Pangong Lake, through very challenging roads and knee deep water crossings- the toughest route faced on the journey
– Escaping just in time, the landslides in Manali, when the Red Alert had already been sounded
– Visiting both the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort on Day 22
– Reaching Rameshwaram, Dhanushkodi and then Kanyakumari finally on Day 28
– Experiencing heavy traffic and bad narrow roads in Kerala, that was practically similar to the Himalayan roads, in nature, resulting in achieving only 400 kms in 14 hours
– Visiting and meeting the many enthusiastic people from the Jawa fraternity across the country, as well as the warm reception, at the Jawa showroom in different places
– Finally crossing the Netravati Bridge after Ullal on the 25th August, symbolizing our final glimpse of our dear hometown – to a rousing welcome of all our friends and well-wishers from the different clubs together – the Mangalore Classic Scooter Club, the Mojo Tribe, Mangalore Bulls Motorcycle Club, Mangalore Jawa & Yezdi Motorcycle Club among others – and then the group ride to the Jawa showroom, where another warm welcome from the Jawa management was due
– Finally reaching back home to our dear warm bed, with a great sense of achievement.

My jawa in rain is catching rust 🙁
How many kilometres covered ? Congratulations to both for such a daring journey !
Was this a Jawa sponsored trip? Don’t see any comments around the performance of the Bike? Looks to be carefully drafted, avoiding insights we were looking for on their new Jawa’s handling of different terrains.
Very well done to you both. It was very courageous act to get on such a terrific adventure. Good bless you both and cherish the memories….
Wonderful & extremely morale boosting example set by this couple, my best wishes for all their future endeavours in life, but main issue to be highlighted will always be of delivery and rusting issues associated with jaws bikes. I had Jawa, then Yezdi n next Yezdi D250 CL II, now honda . I now plan for the Jawa, went to the showroom, but when started the exhaust note was absolutely demoralizing, entirely different from the earlier 2 stroke engines. I now wait for Yezdi’s launch, then decide finally to go ahead with Jawa or Yezdi.
Very good and daring achievement,God bless you couple
Sweet Couple Your togetherness may last for 100 years
I see a couple which seeks happiness from taking the road least taken and challenging odds. But one curious question , did the JAWA really endure for the complete journey ?!
Very well done by you the couple and thanks for being the reason to create such a nice story for Jawa lovers like us.
