‘Gain success by Achieving Impossible Goals’ – Bishop Gerald Lobo

Udupi: “Students achieve success only when they persevere in achieving such goals which seem to be impossible”, said the Bishop of Udupi Diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, while addressing the students at the Rotary Kala Mandir, Kundapur during a programme jointly organized by the Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh and John D’Silva Foundation, Mumbai to distribute scholarship to the meritorious students and also the distribution of Manipal Health Cards on Sunday, 1 September 2019.

Addressing the students, Bishop Gerald Lobo said that in modern times students need not give up their education due to lack of funds as there are many organizations and generous individual donors who provide financial help to needy students. Students should take advantage of such assistance and continue their studies.

The Bishop also expressed hope that by 2025 at least 25 Catholic students would enter government service. At present, there are five Catholic youngsters who are in higher government service.

Delivering the keynote address, Shaman Castelino, Assistant Forest Officer said that there are only a few Christian youths entering the government service. They should show interest in getting service in government administration. If they try hard during the preliminary examinations, they can achieve success easily.

During the programme, the premier project of providing Manipal Health Cards was inaugurated by Shaman Castelino.

Last year 13453 families residing in the Udupi Diocese were provided with Manipal Health Cards availing the consolidated benefit of Rs 4 crore. This year 12724 families have applied for the health cards. This information was provided by Veronica Cornelio, Coordinator of the health cards.

Students who had scored highest marks in the SSLC examinations in the academic year were awarded the Pratibha Purakaskar sponsored by John D’Silva Foundation, Mumbai and meritorious students from the economically disadvantaged families were given scholarships sponsored by the Catholic Sabha.

John D’Silva, president of John D’Silva Foundation was the chief guest of the function. Other guests of honour included: Gladys D’Silva, Fr Stany Tauro-Dean of Kundapur Deanery, Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves-Spiritual Director of Catholic Sabha, Valerian Fernandes-former President of Catholic Sabha, Udupi Pradesh, Alwyn Quadros-present President of Catholic Sabha, Gerald Rodrigues-Treasurer, Dr Gerald Pinto –Convener of the programme, Eric Gonsalves-President of Catholic Sabha, Kundapur Deanery, Veronica Cornelio-Coordinator of Manipal Health Cards, Walter D’Souza-President of Catholic Sabha, Kundapur Unit and other members of the Catholic Sabha.

Eric Gonsalves welcomed the gathering, Santosh Cornelio-Secretary of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh delivered the vote of thanks, Flavian D’Souza and Sharmila D’Sa compered the programme.
