Pumpwell Bale…Pumpwell Bale..! The Much Talked About & Much Awaited Kankanady Pumpwell Flyover Inauguration on 1 January 2020 is 101% Doubtful?

Mangaluru: Following close on its heels after Team Mangalorean published an article on 29 December 2019 (Ref: Pumpwell-Done! Due to Recent Violence in City Trump Cancels His Visit to Inaugurate Flyover? ) , here is yet another follow-up article, just to let the public know that the inauguration of Pumpwell flyover on 1 January 2020, as promised by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel is 101% doubtful, and will not see the light of the day. This would make yet another fake promise made by MP Kateel, thereby fooling the citizens. If you look at the present situation of the ongoing work of the Flyover, it would probably need few more months, and not days, for sure. For the fact, there are hardly 5-10 workers trying to complete this herculean task.

With just less than 24 hours left for the inauguration of Kankanady Flyover as promised by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, this “Deadline of all Deadlines” for completion of the project, trolls and meme creators have been fueling the frenzy. Even a invitation had gone viral, where it had penciled US President Donald Trump, to inaugurate what its creator said is another Wonder of the World-the Pumpwell Flyover. The invitation also mentioned other guests of honor gracing the inaugural ceremony, namely- actor Sunny Leone, former MP and liquor Baron Vijay Mallya, former Minister U T Khader and spiritual coach Vinay Guruji, among others, in the presence of Nalin Kumar Kateel. In the interim, this high-profile invitation and creative Tik Tok videos are doing rapid rounds on social media. What a joke!

Even after so many promised dates of completion and inauguration of this Flyover, and while a new date of completion is assured by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on 1 January 2020, the flyover presently remains a picture of deserted work-in-progress, and amidst the presence of construction debris, abandoned mechanized equipment, earth-movers and iron rods popping out of the unfinished structure, the project appears to be at a standstill. Having missed several deadlines in the past, this much lampooned flyover was back in the news-thanks to the recent spot inspection by DK Member of the parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, during this inspection, directed the concessionaire- Navyuga Udupi Tollway Pvt Ltd to complete work on the flyover by 31 December 2019 to facilitate its inauguration on 1 January 2020, and a video of this had gone viral. All these fake promises and delayed work has got people to make mockery at MP Kateel and the flyover.

The work started in September 2010 under four-laning of NH 66 stretch, but as per the officials of NHAI who at the moment say that it could take 15-20 days to complete the flyover- which is like MP Kateel giving deadlines for inauguration? Even though the work on the flyover is almost completed, but there is lot of work pending in front of Karnataka Bank Head Office located near Pumpwell. Also while the underpass at Ujjodi has been constructed, the work on the road above is yet to be finished. Also the connecting road towards Ujjodi and the retaining wall on both sides of the road too are not done fully. But the work on the storm water drain is in the final stage.

In the meantime as always, NHAI officials are putting the blame on Mother nature, especially the recent rains which they say delayed the work. Other authorities blame it on the three-day curfew that paralyzed the work. It should be noted that the flyover work was started in September 2010, at an estimated cost of Rs 671 crore, as part of the four-lane road project on the NH 66 between Talapady and Kundapur. The 90-km stretch, excluding the 17 km between Nanthoor and NITK-Surathkal was completed by by the NHAI under the Port Connectivity Project, reveal sources.

There has been many deadlines of inauguration of this flyover missed over the years, and recently when Union Road Development Minister Nitin Gadkari had visited the flyover, he had set 31 May 2019 as the inauguration date for sure- that never happened. And once again, in November 2019 MP Nalin K Kateel out of publicity stunt set the inaugural date of the flyover for 1 January 2020- and for sure, even this time his fake promises will add to his credit on more time. So with all these fake promises of inauguration date of the flyover by MP Kateel, and the work delay on the project by Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt Ltd, the whole issue has become a subject for trolls and meme creators- and the general public are enjoying them fully.

So in conclusion, if one of the world marvel, Eiffel Tower took two years to build; Tallest building in the world Burj khalifa took around five years to build (vertically), but people from NHAI cannot complete a work of a flyover which is 300 -500 meters long even after nine years, what more can we think of! Seems like they are planning to build next wonder of the world. And that there are 101% chances of Pumpwell flyover not getting inaugurated tomorrow, we will have wait for yet another PROMISE DATE for the inaugural of the Flyover, when MP Nalin Kumar Kateel makes one more walk around the incomplete flyover, and cooly predict his mantra date of flyover inauguration.
