Kota Double murder: Supreme Court cancels ZP member Raghavendra Kanchan’s bail

Udupi: The Supreme Court on Monday, January 20 cancelled the bail granted to accused Zilla Panchayat Member Raghavendra Kanchan by the Karnataka High court in the case of Kota Double murder.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, 2019 July 16 granted conditional bail to the accused Zilla Panchayat member Raghvendra Kanchan in the Kota Double Murder case.

The murder Victim Bharath’s mother Parvathi had appealed to Supreme Court to cancel the bail of Raghavendra Kanchan which was granted by the High Court of Karnataka. Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Indira Banerjee heard the arguments and cancelled the bail. Advocate Chandrashekar argued on behalf of Parvathi.

On January 26 late night, two youth Bharath (25) and Yathish (26) were brutally murdered with lethal weapons by the accused Rajshekar Reddy and Chandrashekar Reddy during a fight that erupted over the digging of a toilet pit at Manoor, Kota in Udupi District.

Lohit Poojary friend of the accused had stated that he had attempted to stop his neighbour Rajshekar Reddy from constructing the toilet leech pit close to his well. He feared that the pit would pollute his well. When Reddy was adamant, Poojary approached the gram panchayat, health department officials and lodged a complaint against Reddy.

Based on the complaint, officials had inspected the spot. Poojary and his brother, fearing that their neighbour Reddy had hired assassins to murder them sought the help of their friend Bharat after locking themselves in a room. Bharat, along with Yathish, and few other friends rushed to the spot.

While Poojary was narrating the incident of being stalked by Reddy’s assassins to Bharat and others, the duo Rajshekar Reddy and Chandrashekar Reddy arrived at the house armed with lethal weapons. They first attacked Bharat and later Poojary and Yathish, who had rushed to the rescue of Bharat, the complainant stated.

Both Bharath and Yathish sustained serious injuries in the attack and were declared brought dead to the hospital. A case was registered against Rajshekar Reddy and Chandrashekar Reddy in the Kota police station.

Rivalry between Raghavendra Kanchan and the victim Yathish had ended in the murder of Yathish (27) and his friend Bharath (28) in January this year. Investigations by police had revealed that Raghavendra was in constant contact with the murderer Harish Reddy.

Such an elaborate report but fails to narrate the role of Kanchan!
