Website Impact! NH 66 Stretch between Padua School & Nanthoor Circle Resurfaced by NHAI

Mangaluru : Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about heir negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc.

Here is yet another story of website publicity which has brought positive results, and this time action was taken by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials within the next day after our report was published, and necessary action has been taken. No doubt, that the media plays a key role in shaping the growth of the City. Mangalorean.com had published a report (Ref: Highway of Deaths? NH 66 Stretch from Padau School till Nanthoor Circle Unsafe for 2-Wheelers ) , and the link was forwarded to the concerned people and also posted on social media, and in response, the action was taken by the concerned authorities at NHAI within couple of days. Team Mangalorean extends heartfelt thanks to those officials at NHAI who did the needful at the earliest.

                                             BEFORE……..

After months and close to a year; after quite a few complaints were made by the motorists and citizens; after Social activist Gerard Towers filed a complaint against NHAI officials on the pathetic and hazardous condition of the NH 66; after Kadri East Police Station filed an case against NHAI in this regard; and after Team Mangalorean/Mangalorean.com highlighted the issue- FINALLY the NHAI has resurfaced the entire NH 66 stretch between Padua School and Nanthoor Circle, which was hazardous to motorists, especially two-wheelers.

If you happen to drive or ride on the National Highway stretch between Padua High School/College few days ago, you would have noticed how dangerous the road was because of depressions/ grooves at various spots, due to sliding of bitumen, and this was posing danger to motorists, especially two-wheeler riders, where many riders had been injured or dead due to accidents from the bad condition of this NH stretch. Moved by a road accident happened last week which killed a 20-year-old degree student and Vice President of Besant evening College, Mangaluru, Karthik Mallya, after his skull was crushed under the rear wheels of the truck, near Artic furniture showroom, had a social activist Gerard Towers of Kadri raised his voice and also filed a complaint against National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), for their negligence.                                         ………AFTER

In his complaint to the Kadri East Police Station, Towers had insisted an apology from the NHAI engineer Shivashankar for the death of a young student in a freak accident, due to the depression/grooves and uneven road, and had urged NHAI to rectify the unsafe road immediately. The total negligence of NHAI was the result in the death of this student. And even after few accidents in the past, the NHAI officials had turned a blind eye towards it. Apart from grooves and even surface, even the side of the road was not even- and two-wheelers used trip over, and result in accidents.

Due to the voice raised by activist Gerard Towers, and also that the road safety issue that was highlighted by Mangalorean.com, action was taken by NHAI authorities at the quickest and we now see that the entire stretch of NH 66 is resurfaced between Padua school and Nanthoor- and also a major portion of that NH 66 has also been resurfaced. “Only when you raise your voice or lodge complaints we can bring in a change, but sadly, our people keep quite after accidents, and therefore we see accidents happen often due to negligence of authorities. We need to bring to the notice of such officials about their responsibilities. And if we keep silent, then we will be seeing accidents happening frequently. Let’s join together and take action against those authorities who don’t do their job right, and put people’s lives in jeopardy” had said Towers.

Now that NHAI has rectified this safety hazard issue, Team Mangalorean would like to thank the concerned officials for expediting the work on this unsafe NH and making it safe to drive and ride at present.
