PLEASE STAY AT HOME! Then why are Bunch of ignorant People still on Streets in Mangaluru
Mangaluru: PLEASE STAY AT HOME! PLEASE STAY AT HOME! In spite of several requests along with recent warnings given by Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, and also Police Commissioner Dr Harsha, but unfortunately people in this City, named as a “Educational Hub” and also named as “Smart City”, it seems like educated and smart people are the ones breaking the law, and moving around in the city abusing Social Distancing. Are we all hooked on stupidity or what, not showing any seriousness to this deadly disease which has been taking away day by day.
Seems like the administration and police department are only implementing the laws, but not strictly enforcing it. In spite of CM Yediyurappa giving stern warning to people to stay at home or face consequences from police, and not to blame him if they get arrested, but people have been taking it very lightly and loitering around in groups, either while buying their daily commodities like milk, vegetables, meat etc. Don’t they know that they have to keep a distance from one another? I bet not, or they are just ignorant.
This morning Team Mangalorean took a ride to Bunder Dock and Central market, and few other areas, and was surprised to note that people are in groups and freely moving around, not caring any feat of the Covid-19 outbreak. Even though the crowd is much lesser than it was yesterday at the fish dock and central market area, but still today, there were quite a large number of traders/people doing their business and wandering around. And near Central market, Kalpana Sweets in order to give away some of the sweet items which don’t remain fresh and tasty after few days, were given FREE to people- and there was a huge rush, with people falling over each other to grab their free stuff. And luckily, the owner who noticed Yours Truly clicking photos, was also kind enough to give a box of mixed sweets.
Okay, we all need our daily commodities, but we have to be careful and follow the guidelines, in order to keep safe from Coronavirus, which has become pandemic. I saw people bargaining on vegetable prices, falling on each other or brushing against each other- and none had safety precaution, like a face mask. Even last night, when I went to two supermarkets looking for bread and milk, which were out at both the shops, I noticed the entire supermarket was packed with people, with hardly any space between each other- and customers were in the queue to pay for their groceries- but no one kept social distancing. I have no idea why both the stores allowed many people to enter at the same time- they should have kept a time frame, allowing them to shop within certain time.
I saw people instead of buying the daily needed items, were shopping for other items like candies, chips, other junk food, soft drinks, and also cosmetics etc. Can’t these people stay away from lipsticks and talc and remain in their natural beauty for few days, instead of spending more time at the store and crowding the area- and I feel sorry to say that these were the rich and educated people. And many have been buying items in large quantities, like the world is going to end tomorrow, thereby leaving shelves empty for other customers. Bah humbug and totally greedy folks!
With such kind of attitude from the people ignoring the warnings towards the spread of Covid-19, it’s nice to note that PM Modi has ordered for strict lock-down. Startled by life returning to its hectic routine a day after a Janata Curfew to check Covid-19 from spreading, even Karnataka government and CM Yediyurappa fed up with peoples’ ignorance has also issued orders for lock-down with curfew like implications in entire state, starting Monday midnight until 31 March. This lock-down announcement came after seven fresh Covid-19 cases in the state were noticed, taking the total number of the infected to 33.
It’s a shame that we Indians are showing to the entire world by such kind of ignorance and non-seriousness towards Coronavirus/Covid-19, while many countries are strictly adhering to total lock-down, with people staying at home, and only coming out for few minutes to shop for their necessities. Here in the City we are seeing youngsters going triple on two-wheelers, and hardly any traffic cops are there to stop them. Many thought people got on to the streets after observing ‘Janata Curfew’on Sunday without realizing that Covid-19 could spread rapidly if social distancing protocols are not followed. Police should be instructed to be stricter and act against those who loiter on the streets.
In conclusion, even though the CM, DC, and Police Commissioner have once again made a humble request to people to STAT AT HOME, Team Mangalorean also would like to remind our readers also to follow the protocol of social-distancing, and stay safe from this deadly disease which is spreading fast.
I think the Antony guys r taking the Janata curfew seriously and not collecting the garbage….next we know that there is a new epedemic going around due to the smell of rotting garbage and infesting creatures
