Total Lock Down! Cops Getting Tough on Violators with Stern Warning to STAY HOME or FACE ACTION!

Mangaluru: Like I had mentioned in my last article which was published on Friday, 27 March ( Ref: Janarige Bashe Ella! SOCIAL DISTANCING at Central Veg Market is Just the OPPOSITE? ), it seemed like even after so many requests, warning, awareness campaign etc made by the CM, DC< Police Commissioner and govt to stay home and follow Social Distancing, still “JANARIGE BASHE ELLA”- where the crowd at the Central market was just like yesterday, consumers falling on each other to but their products.

In an emergency meeting called by District-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Friday night at the deputy commissioner’s auditorium, where he had said, “Seven coronavirus cases are already reported in the district. Coronavirus positive cases have been increasing in the neighbouring Kasargod and Uttara Kannada district. The coming days will be more dangerous if public movements are not stopped. All should support the decision taken for the better future of the people. The decision needs to be taken inevitably for the health of people. The prime minister and the chief minister have asked everybody to stay at home and strictly maintain social distance. Therefore we decided to suspend all the activities, commercial affairs and completely close shops and establishments on Saturday, 28 March, totally, no exceptions, whatsoever”.

Later Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha has also said that complete lockdown will be enforced on Saturday, March 28 with only medical emergencies as an exception. In an audio message, Dr P S Harsha said, “Our neighbouring district of Kasaragod has 82 positive cases. Over 40,000 people are home quarantined. We had two more cases in Dakshina Kannada today. Hence, as discussed in the meeting with district in-charge minister, MP, MLAs, and other officials, a complete lockdown will be enforced tomorrow (28 March)”.

“No shops will be open tomorrow. No one should come on the road except if there is any medical emergency. Police will not lathi-charge anyone but will be using loudspeakers to inform people to stay indoors. Personal vehicles like motorcycles and cars will not be allowed at any cost. Only trucks supplying essential goods will be allowed to ply on roads. Hence, it will be a complete lockdown. Police will be on rounds from 5.30 am. No one should be spotted on roads,” had said Dr Harsha.

And like what police commissioner said, it was this morning, with police patrolling the city and informing/warning people on the streets to go home and stay indoor since it was a total lockdown- but no one used lathi charge, but they all gave stern warnings verbally. People riding two-wheelers when stopped by cops, were giving all kinds of excuses-for example, the cops stopped a scooter, and his explanation was that eh had gone to purchase milk and medicines. The smart cops asked the rider, to open his box and show them the proof, and unfortunately, there was no milk nor medicines in the scooter compartment- the fumed cops chased away the rider using bad words?

Next, the cops stopped a lady riding a scooter, whose excuse was that she was taking some documents/drugs prescriptions to the hospital, which also proved to be false since she couldn’t produce any proof- and the cops yelled at her in such a way, I bet that lady will not come out on the streets for few days, at least? That was the situation this morning. While the milk booths and medical stores opened till 8-9 am, the rest of the businesses were totally closed. Even the fuel stations were closed, putting the motorists on road in hardship. Streets looked deserted, with only a few people, but a bunch of stray dogs wandering looking for food and water. Poor animals!

Police inspector and his crew also took to task, a paanwala who was selling cigarettes and gutka behind his petty shop gate, near Vanas Restaurant on Kadri Road, and was given a stern warning to stop his illegal dealing, when the City is totally lockdown- and I bet he was about to piss in his pants, the way the cops handled him. I hope he will learn from this incident, not to do his golmal business, when others are closed.

So that was the scene and what was happening this morning. Hold on to your breath and keep your fingers crossed as to what would be the order for tomorrow from the govt and other local authorities. Until then remain safe at home, and enjoy the comfort of your sweet home, until tomorrow.
