Mangaluru: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest against the formation of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, on April 6.
Speaking on the occasion, District Secretary of AAP, Deviprasad said, “The state government has formed ACB to protect the corrupt officials and the formation of ACB will only weaken the Lokayukta. The AAP wants the state government to concentrate its efforts on making the Lokayukta stronger.”
He further said, “The Lokayukta was formed by the then Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde and has delivered justice in several corruption cases. The corrupt Lokayukta, Justice Bhaskar Rao brought a bad name to the Lokayukta by misusing his powers. ACB is not the answer; instead, the state should concentrate towards making the Lokayukta stronger.”
Party leader, Alexander D’Souza, Dr Marcia Pinto, Mohammed Salim, Swebert D’Souza, Jerald Towers and others were also present.
