Abhishek Suicide case, ABVP Members stage Protest, Arrested
Mangaluru: “The congress party and state government are directly responsible for the suicide of ABVP member. The Congress government has given Suicide Bhagya for patriots”, said the national general secretary of Akhila Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad Vinay Bidare during a rasta roko protest held in front of the Besant College here on January 11.
Addressing the protesters Vinay said, “On January 7, at Jagadguru Chandrashekar Memorial College Chikkamagaluru, NSS zone, and ABVP organized a Martyr’s day. But the NSUI members pressurized the ABVP activist Abhishek not to organize the programme. Abhishek did not listen to them and continued the preparation for the programme. NSUI members called a press meet and tried to stop the programme and also assaulted ABVP members.
He further said, “The NSUI members filed cases against ABVP members, they targetted Abhishek misusing their power. Abhishek was also insulted by other students for canceling the programme. Abhishek hurt by the insult and the fear of police complaint against him, committed suicide by hanging in Sringeri town.”
The students later demanded justice and called for a nation-wide protest on January 11 and 12.
The protesters protested by holding Rasta Roko near the Besant college. The traffic was disrupted and the police took all the students into custody, they were later released.
