Abu Dhabi: ISC Holds 4th UAE Open Throw ball Championship 2015

Abu Dhabi: In a thrilling and electrifying finish, Bunts Dubai Ladies Throwball team beat KCO Abu Dhabi and in Men’s Throwball final, Bunts Dubai managed to beat the fighting Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and walked away with the ISC-Arab Udupi Throwball trophies 2015.

India Social & Cultural Centre conducted “ISC – Arab Udupi 4th UAE Open Throw ball Championship 2015” at ISC premises, Abu Dhabi on October 30.

President Ramesh Panicker welcomed the gathering, match coordinator Sarvotham Shetty briefed the rules and regulations of the tournament. Shekar B Shetty wished the teams for the success of the tournament.

The event was a resounding success with 7 teams in both Men’s and Women’s division participating for the coveted title. Bunts Dubai, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, KCO Abu Dhabi, Mogaveers UAE, Mangalore Konkans, Konkans Dubai, and Coastal Friends UAE took part in the championship.

The tournament began with President of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and veteran in the field of guiding and managing throwball tournaments for the last 25 plus years, Sarvotham Shetty inviting the team captains for the lots and explaining the rules and regulations of the league matches.

The teams participated in the day long thrilling tournament in the good cool weather of Abu Dhabi on the roof top of Abu Dhabi Social and Cultural Centre.

The winner of ISC – Arab Udupi 4th UAE Open Throw ball Championship 2015 Men’s team is Bunts Dubai – UAE and the runner up is Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, while the winner of the Women’s team is Bunts Dubai UAE and the runner up is KCO Abu Dhabi.

Awards for the Championship: Cash Prize and Team Trophy were awarded to both the Winners and Runner Up teams (Men & Women). Shekar Shetty along with his wife Kushala Shetty, ISC President Ramesh Panikkar, Leo Rodrigues and other Managing Committee members were present during the prize distribution ceremony.

Individual awards for both Men & Women category were presented namely Best Smasher Award, Best Defender Award and Best All-Rounder of the Championship.

In the concluding ceremony, ISC Sports Secretary George thanked all the sponsors of the event, and the participants. All the referees were honoured for the dedicated service throughout the day and also ISC members who helped to organize the games smoothly and arrange venues and courts. All the sponsors were also facilitated on the occasion. Sarvotham Shetty declared the names of the best performed players in the following category:

Women’s Team: Best Striker – Shashi Shetty of BUNTS DUBAI, Best Defender – Akshata Shetty of BUNTS DUBAI, Best All-Rounder – Mable of KCO

Men’s Team: Best Striker – Ajit of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Best Defender – Shiva Shetty of Bunts Dubai, Best All Rounder – Ranjit Shetty of Dubai Bunts.

ISC had extended its warm hospitality by making special arrangements to provide lunch and refreshments to all the players, families and spectators with a total turnout of more than 400 enthusiastic people joining the day-long fun event. First-Aid facilities were provided by LLH Hospital on standby to the participants on the day of the competition.

The event was well conducted and organized by the special efforts of Tournament chief – Sarvathom Shetty, along with ISC Sports Secretary George, Assistant Sport Secretary – Mohammed Yunus Usman, Tournament official Yogesh Prabhu and Ziyad Kamaruddin, supported by Keerthi Kumar, referees Cynthia D’Cunha, Jenita, Prakash and all the other match officials, volunteers and support staff of the center.

All the league matches were played in a very sportive spirit and the referees did a good job by conducting all the matches. The event was a memorable one for all to remember.
