Addressing the protesters ABVP city president Sudheer said, “The girl’s hostel in the Wenlock hospital where the nursing students stay is in a pathetic condition. Security of the hostel is totally neglected. Doors and windows of the hostel have broken, and the building is in a dilapidated condition. There is a walkway connecting the hospital to the hostel where most of the time family members or relatives of the patients occupy to rest, which makes it hard for the students to walk by. When we had approached the local MLA with our grievances, he advised us to stay away from the issue and concentrate only on our studies. Is this how an MLA reacts rather than finding a solution to resolve the problems?”

Nursing student Akshatha said, “We are nearly 130 students staying in the hostel, with additional 76 students visit only for food. We have only three cooks to prepare food for all of us, and when one of the cooks goes on leave we have to cook the food ourselves since the other two cooks cannot handle all the work. We don’t have proper facilities in the hostel. There is no safety, no warden and lack of security staff. We sometimes live in fear, Even our stipend has not been paid for the past 9 months. The concerned authorities of the administration and hospital management should take necessary action to recruit the required staff, security, and above all, renovate the dilapidated building at the earliest”.

ABVP leaders Jayesh, Anushka Kottari, Chethan Padil and all the nursing students were present.
