ACCE(I) Bid Adios to ‘Techno Week 2017’ in Pomp and Grandeur

Mangaluru : Quoting Shakespeare’s words, “But with the word the time will bring on summer, When briers shall have leaves as well as thorns, All’s well that ends well; still the fine’s the crown; Whatever the course, the end is the renown “-the members of Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE) did a marvelous job by organizing whopping 55 programmes in nearly 12 days, including seminars, Technical talks etc during the prestigious ” Techno Week-2017′ at 18 engineering colleges and 8 poly-technical institutions in and around Mangaluru city. ‘Techno-Week” emerged out to be very successful- Kudos to the determination and hard work of all the resource persons and the members of ACCE(I) which made this “Techno Week 2017” a grand success and a memorable one. A job well done, Comrades!

A host of various activities were planned during the ” Week” ( from 15 Sept- 27 Sept) in many engineering and polytechnic institutions around and beyond the DK district to celebrate the creative problem-solving role engineers play in making the world the better, safer, more enjoyable place for us all to live. The week included hands-on activities and presentations designed to introduce youngsters to the excitement of engineering and the importance of technological literacy. And Ramco Cements Limited , the concrete cement company as ‘Sponsor’/partner of ACCE’s “Techno Week” had pledged to connect engineers and other technology professionals with organizations/institutions to have various informative and creative programmes during the “Week”, thereby bringing a positive impact on people around us. With innovative concrete solutions delivered by Ramco, both the ACCE and Ramco are trying to build a better nation-and surely, ” Yes, together they can!”.

The Valedictory function of ‘ Techno Week 2017’ was held St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Auditorium-Bendore, Mangaluru on 27 September at 7 pm. The programme was called to order by chairman of ACCE, Er Anil S D’souza, which was followed by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song rendered by Er Anil V Baliga. The valedictory function was inaugurated by Chief guest- Dr G K Prabhu- Director, MIT-Manipal; and Pro-Vice Chancellor _Manipal University by lighting the lamp, along with other dignitaries namely- Er Anil K Pillai- DGM-Technical-Ramco Ltd; Er Vijaya Vishnu Mayya- National VP- ACCE(I) South; also joined by ACCE I) Mangaluru Chapter namely Er Anil S D’souza (Chairman); Er Sathyaranjan Rao (Secretary); Er Arun Prabha (Treasurer); Er Suraj Shetty and Er Vinayak Pai (Both Advisors, Techno-Week); Er Austin Miranda and Er Rajesh Nayak (Both Techno-week Conveners).

A elaborate audio-video presentation of the programmes that were conducted during the ” Techno Week” was presented to the audience by Er Vinayak Pai. Resource persons of the Techno Week were felicitated during the occasion, and also two other persons were honored namely- Sunil Kumar- a Fire Station Officer, Mangaluru; and Er M H Sharieff- Managing Partner-Creative Engineers, Mangaluru. Sunil Kumar was honored for his yeomen service at the Fire Station, who had also received CM’s Gold Medal in the Year 2011; and Hon. President’s Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service on Republic day 2017. Er M H Sharieff was honored for his capacity and determination in completing the Lady Goeshen Hospital work, which was left incomplete by other contractor couple of years ago.

Er Anil K Pillai- DGM-Technical, The Ramco Cements Ltd addressed the audience and did a technical presentation on “Dry Mix Products from Ramco”. Complimenting the ACCE members for doing a wonderful job during the ‘Techno Week’, he assured his full support and encouragement from his side in future ACCE projects. He further said, “Missing links to engineering and to make things happen are :ability to ask good questions, ability to see patterns in data, ability to devise models to Under Stand various factors affecting the problems, ability to break problems into smaller issues i.e decomposition, ability to visualize and most importantly ability to communicate and present it. Many a times Projects suffer because of breakdown in communication..Ramco being an organization having contributed to various CSR activities will also continue to spread awareness amongst budding civil engineers”.

Addressing the audience Chief guest Dr G K Prabhu complimenting the civil engineers said, “You civil engineers have done yeomen service for the development and infrastructure of Mangaluru city, for which I commend your efforts and hard work. ACCE( I) has brought the latest technology advancements in the world to the members and prepare them to carry out futuristic design with an eye on assurance of quality- and you have contributed a lot to the city through your service. No doubt that civil Engineers are the backbone of development and technology, and for that matter, civil engineers have played an important role in the infrastructure of Smart City-Mangaluru. You engineers have a great challenge between a scientist and technology. Technology has advanced these and it’s good to note that. As it is said Engineers are the harbingers of change, you all can change the way the world lives. You are the silent revolutionaries and unsung heroes who ceaselessly engage themselves in nation building activities. Your invaluable contribution made towards the community and the nation building by all you gifted engineers should be appreciated by all. May God bless the Civil Engineers”.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Er Sathyaranjan Rao; and the function was compered by the one-and-only “Great Master of Ceremony” Er Rajendra Kalbhavi. The formal function was adjourned for dinner, during which a few engineers entertained the audience with a “karaoke-style” singing extravaganza. Ending this report with little bit of wit- “To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be”- another one :What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons and civil engineers build targets.? Long Live Civil Engineers!

Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (I), Mangaluru Centre Working Towards Qualitative and Sustainable Construction

Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (I), Mangalore Centre is one of the strongest and most prominent engineering organization of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts. It is a part of Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (I) whose Head office is at Bangalore. The ACCE(I) was formed in 1985 with the intention of safe guarding the interest of civil engineers and assimilating the technical knowledge to both engineering fraternity and to the society. With over 20 centers all over India, the association has nearly 4000 members all over India.

ACCE(I), Mangalore Centre was formed in 1997. Since then till today, it has proved itself as the most positive contributor for technical solutions in all aspects of civil engineering for civil engineers authorities and general public. With the membership strength of more than 380 the association is considered as one stop solution for all the problems faced by civil engineering fraternity. This has been proved with extraordinary past track record of excellent programmes conducted in all possible avenues. The association regularly conducts seminars, technical talks, workshops etc. in an effort to update the engineering fraternity about the recent technical and technological innovations by availing the best services of the experts in the field. By doing this the association has covered almost all the stakeholders of the civil engineering fraternity from students to professionals including the government officials.

What’s stands out about the association from the other organizations is not only about in identifying the problems faced by the stakeholders but its extraordinary effort of voluntariness and involvement in rendering its services to come out with a permanent solutions. The members of the association have bestowed their best services, assistance and spend their valuable time in meeting the concerned people in arriving solutions. The perseverance of the association with positive thinking has not only benefited the construction fraternity but also common man in general.

Engineers Day and Techno Week The Engineers Day was celebrated with all respect and devotion to mark the birth anniversary of legendary engineer Bharatha Rathna Sir M Visveswaraya. On this occasion, two eminent engineers were honoured as a tribute to their great professional honesty. Besides this, a member of the association was honoured for achieving excellence in their profession and for rendering un-selfish great service to the association.

Techno Week-2017:

To commemorate the birthday anniversary of Sir M. Visveswaraya in more creative way the association conducted various technical talks and seminars in engineering and diploma colleges in an effort to disseminate the practical knowledge of civil engineering field to the students. Usually, the total number of programmes was numbered at 30, but this year we had nearly 55 programmes. The Ramco Cement Ltd has been continuously associated with this programme for the past 10 years.

Ultra Tech concrete excellence award:

The intention of this programme is to appreciate and promote good construction practice. The awards are given in various categories for the districts of South Kanara, Udupi and Shimoga. Ultra Tech Ltd has been the sole partner of the programme.

Engineers Week:

This is a unique and creative progamme initiated by the association to enhance the practical, technical knowledge to different people. The majority part of Engineers Week is dedicated to students. This is also organised to help and promote better understanding between Civil Engineering students and professionals through various activities like seminars and career guidance programmes. Special training programmes are also organised for site engineers and supervisors. During the week efforts are also made to provide hands-on training to engineering students in the construction arena. As many as 15 engineering colleges of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and eight diploma college students benefit from these programmes. Apart from these, the association is credited in conducting a national level awards function called Awards Consultants Convention Colloquim (A3C). During the year 2013, on this occasion, the association has conducted 2 days of seminar on “Innovative In fractures for Incredible India”.

The association hosted two-day International Conference on Smart City during November 2016. The association also hosted AGM of the National Body and conducted two days of National Seminar with the topic “Making My India” the ways ahead, from a civil engineers perspective. The association was fully involved in framing the final draft of zoning regulations (Comprehensive development plan) of Mangalore City Corporation. The association held discussions in various levels at the following different meetings. Association is represented by two of its members in the Technical Committee appointed by Govt of Karnataka for the construction of maternity ward of Lady Goschen Hospital under CSR activity by ONGC-MRPL.

Awards and Recognition As a true mark of excellence, the awards has been routine way of life for association. The association has been bagging the Best Center Award in the National Level from the last 8 consecutive years. This year also the Association has bagged the Best Centre Award in the National level. The award was presented during the AGM held at Mangalore. Besides this, association won a special award from the Head Quarters on Foundation Day considering its great services to the civil engineering fraternity and society. This award was given by the Speaker of Karnataka Legislative council Mr. D.H. Shankara Murthy.

Dear Engineers of ACCE(I) Mangaluru, I am proud to learn that you have done Techno Week in a grand manner. You are really doing wonderful services for the benefit of engineering community and society as well. I congratulate RAMCO CEMENTS for sponsoring such programs and wish them all the best in their business too.
