Accused gets 10 yrs’ Jail for Sexual Assault on mentally ill Girl in Karkala
Karkala: The Udupi district and Sessions Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a 34-year-old accused to 10 years in jail for raping an 18-year-old mentally disabled girl in Karkala.
The convicted accused has been identified as Ganesh Poojary alias Anu (34), a resident of Kundarbettu, Karkala.
On June 14, 2016, Ganesh Poojary, raped the 18-year-old mentally disabled girl who was alone in the house and also threatened her not to reveal it to anyone. A case had been registered in Karkala Rural Police Station in this regard.
Karkala circle inspector Joy Anthony arrested the accused Ganesh on July 15, 2016. After investigations, he filed the charge sheet to the court. The court examined 21 witnesses out of the 27.
The district and sessions judge sentenced 10-year jail and Rs 10000 fine to the accused. The judge also ordered the accused to pay Rs 25,000 as compensation for the victim.
