ACSA Urges Bar Council not to Support Accused in Thota Bengre Gang Rape Case

Mangaluru: The All College Student AssoAssociation (ACSA) submitted a Memorandum to the president and the members of the Bar Council and urged the advocates not to contest the case in favour if Thota Bengre gang-rape case accused at the court premises here on November 28.

President of ACSA Gurudath Malli speaking on the occasion said, “Advocates should uphold justice, they should work towards providing justice to the people in the society. The Thota Bengre gang rape is a painful incident which has brought a bad name to the Dakshina Kannada district. An innocent girl has been raped without mercy. We request all the advocates of DK not to fight the case in favour of the accused”.

Gurudath further said, “In our district, the drug mafia being rampant encourages the youth to indulge in such crimes. The district administration has failed to curb the drug menace which leads to such crimes. Advocates should provide justice to the victim and not support the accused. If any of the advocates take up the case in favour of the accused in Thota Bengre gang rape case, we will protest in front of their office,” he warned.

Later a Memorandum was submitted to the president of Bar Council M R Ballal.

After receiving the Memorandum M R Ballal said, “This is a good initiative by the students to bring awareness. I condemn the recent gang rape in Thota Bengre. The issue will be put forth before the members of the Bar Council”.

Secretary of the Bar Council advocate Dinakar Shetty said, “We have accepted the Memorandum from the members of ACSA. We strongly condemn the Thota Bengre gang rape case and assure to provide justice to the victim.”

ACSA Members Ibrahim Bahtesh, Astel Lobo, Ashwith Adapa, Anvitha Shetty, Priyanka Shetty, Shainy, Megha, Nihal Rai, Sohan Karanth, Majid Korepadi, Sulaiman Shafi and Ashfaq were also present.
